According to dynamical systems, psychiatric disorders can be seen as energy landscapes with peaks and valleys. OCD has deep valleys where neural activity gets stuck, while schizophrenia has shallow valleys that let neural activity roam too freely, connecting unrelated ideas.

Trying this again: I’m a terrible PI for not posting this sooner. A recent review published from my lab @NeurobioUMass @UMassChan from the fabulous @Viole_DL on activity-dependent regulation of microglia within neural circuits: https://t.co/1UD8v5sZEq

In this review, we highlight current data supporting that microglia are continuously monitoring and responding to neural activity to then modulate synapse structure and function.

Mount Sinai researchers have shown for the first time that immune cells called monocytes can be drawn during stress into sites in the brain that control emotional behaviors. These data establish a novel mechanism by which the immune system can affect central nervous system

Excited by our study @ImmunityCP showing that senescent monocyte-derived macs (driven by MAPK mutations) which we showed lead to macs prolonged survival and cytokine release breakdown the BBB, infiltrate the brain and promote neurodegeneration
