Significant news that @gmcuk are reducing PLAB spaces for IMG doctors by 50% Unfortunately, GMC has taken exam fees ~2 years into future - need transparent info for PLAB candidates so they can decide if they want to avoid this expensive path to unemployment @BMAResidents
Good to speak at @BAPIOUK on IMGs - appreciate the invitation from @indranilc We must support resident and locally employed doctors - especially against racism and xenophobia @gmcuk are reducing PLAB slots by 50% but underlying issues of too few training posts and too few GPs

Some personal reflections on the recent @gmcuk workforce report- along with @bmj_latest investigation regards the 'gig economy' being run by #NHS Trusts. The system has no idea what to do next- apart from warm words and a lot of hand wringing- especially with the situation

A constructive suggestion: The government should have much less propaganda against those who work in the NHS, and much more funding for its budgets. A majority of doctors supported the recent strike. Why did the Dept of Health suggest otherwise? https://t.co/HfIgCI0fZT

It would seem that poll data was cherrypicked and then used to brief the Times. Such distortion of facts from a public body should alarm us all, says former president of YouGov Peter Kellner

Majority of doctors backed the strike. @DHSCgovuk briefed the opposite. When a public body has to bend the truth to win an argument, that tells you everything about the argument. Does the government actually want to negotiate in good faith and resolve the doctor dispute?

@wesstreeting @fletchjack @PJWang12 @DocShivSharma Wondering why the NHS is in a mess and you can't see your GP Look at how doctors are blocked by the NHS from training to become your GP/consultant in the last 4 years Training doctors: +19% **SAS/LE doctors: +48% Specialist: +11% GP: +9% @DocShivSharma @iDrSunny @svig2

Normally the GMC is very tight-lipped... But in this GMC workforce report they are very actively trying to undermine the policy of UK doctor prioritisation, supported by the BMA and @wesstreeting

UK Medical Workforce Report -by the GMC- has today confirmed what many of us have worried about IMG doctors being rushed into the system, via the PLAB exam, are being left UNEMPLOYED due to collapsing employment situation in the NHS GMC has made millions from PLAB exam fees

. @wesstreeting @NHSEngland are launching a ‘Foundation programme for PAs in primary care ‘ Despite the @rcgp position that there is NO ROLE for PAs Despite the @lengreview saying that PAs are unsafe diagnosing undifferentiated pts https://t.co/XJFkdYRsO7
‘ The findings that sat most uncomfortably with me was the concerns of families who lost loved ones and without any doubt would have made different choices had they known that they were seeing a PA and not a Dr. If nothing else motivates us to act surely it has to be that ‘

Wes Streeting says striking NHS staff are “holding patients to ransom”. Wrong! He’s the one holding patients and the NHS to ransom, by refusing to give doctors the pay and jobs they deserve. To all our dedicated healthcare workers: thank you for all you do. Solidarity!

RCGP warns of a 'mass exodus' of GPs within five years. New polling by the College reveals nearly a third of GPs are unlikely to be working in general practice in five years’ time. Nearly a third of GPs are unlikely to be working in general practice in five years’ time

We’re 2,147 anaesthetic doctors short, and the gap is growing. Surgeries are cancelled every day because of it. There’s capacity to train more, yet the government threatens to cut doctor jobs. Patients are being denied the care they deserve.

This is the next move..... Postgraduate professional exams, by the Royal Colleges, will be opened to non-doctors in the name of "upskilling" & "driving knowledge" for the Team. Huge £££ spinner for RCEM & others, if exams for non-doctors become a key part of credentialing
Their assessment is debated and rightly so. I don’t know why ACPs don’t do something like the MRCEM. Whether we like it or not, assessment drives learning, and having to learn that stuff really does help. This is one question I would ask RCEM. It seems a perfectly reasonable ask.

There’s less than 40% chance that when you go to your ‘GPs’ you will have an appointment with your GP They are getting rid of doctors from the NHS
After the tragic death of her daughter, Jessica, Andrea Brady campaigned for a rule encouraging GPs to rethink patient concerns after three appointments. We listened. Here's how @wesstreeting introduced Jess’s Rule to protect patients and catch serious illnesses sooner.

CONFIRMED ✅ ACPs are directly aimed at taking up the role of a qualified doctor. An ACP is a nurse, paramedic, physio etc, who is doing the job of a doctor, without any medical degree. Not "complementary".... not "supportive"..not an "extras pair of hands"....a direct swap
@timricketts_ @ollieburtonmed @Burnt2020 @DrJoFranklin @2manypeople4me @drmattuk @Molly2323232323 @cathjw @madmedicalman @medicalmodelbri @TheBreakster @NHSEmployers @rcgp @KamilaRCGP @ParamedicsUK @gmcuk 3/ ACPs are directly aimed at filling gaps in the SHO workforce. Hence why if you look at the curriculum for credentialing the “entrustment levels” are SHO objectives, regardless of supervision tiers etc

A clear and definitive statement from the British Society of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine... Non-doctors are not an acceptable replacement to be a Consultant for hospital patients. Respect all colleagues for their skills but don't accept risky Doctor Replacement agenda
@Dr_Done_ This is not an isolated incident. Several Trusts have replaced medical consultants with cheaper non-medical ones. Patients are not always aware that their “consultant” is actually an OT for example who can’t prescribe but is instructing their residents/GP re complex med changes.
