insanely proud of our new #doctorsmess - it was the outcome of a fabulous group of people coming together and having a laugh painting until 3am one weekend. it’s not often that you see, let alone make, genuine and sincere change in the NHS but we did it!. the NHS needs more of it

🚨 Resident doctors rotating in Aug 🚨. Rotas were due last Wed (25th). Northern trusts knew which doctors were arriving on 15 May. Some still haven’t sent rotas. 6 weeks notice is the bare minimum & some can’t cope. ➡️ Use the BMA guide to chase yours:

Clearly, the fears around unemployment aren’t just confined to Northern. “Doctors went to Australia 4 years ago because it was sunny and you were paid more. Now doctors go there because there’s a job for them”. - a resident doctor in @Gateshead_NHS’s pay and pizza session today.
Today, your @BMALondon resident doctor committees call upon London NHS trusts to act on the impending unemployment crisis facing resident doctors.👇🏼 . As patients languish on waiting lists and struggle to access doctors, it’s utterly lamentable that doctors face unemployment.

Sad but unsurprising that we have employers who seemingly see their doctors as a commodity. In one trust, cohorts of residents have been forced to reapply en masse for their jobs with just days notice. No time off for interviews, other than 30 mins off the busy ward to attend.
It is incredibly disappointing to see zero (or a negative) response from some trusts on this. Some of the trusts are also facing action over other questionable behaviour around this:. ❌ @Gateshead_NHS . ❌ @NorthumbriaNHS. ❌ @TEWV. ❌ @CDDFTNHS. Contemptuous towards doctors.

Interesting comments from @HSJEditor on what resident doctors want when…. a decade of our lives being unable to book leave >6 weeks ahead of summer,. many employed on rolling 1 year fixed term contracts,. 100s of unpaid hours on exams,. pay erosion. Better IT doesn’t come close!
Pay is one part of this but the rest are important. 📉 Pay erosion over 14 years. 📆 unable to book leave until the last min. 🎓 unfunded mandatory exams. ‼️ the widespread use of 1yr contracts. 😰 fear of unemployment. …are all reasons doctors are leaving. Can you blame them?.
