My daughter is officially discharged from hospital and Section 3!! So proud of her. The trials she has had to go through, the abuses she has endured. Her strength always amazes me and I know she can go on to beat this horrible illness. Thank you everyone who has supported us. 👊

The funding for the specialist unit has been approved & I’ll be transferred next week!
Real mixed emotions but after over 5 months here on the acute ward with no real help, psychological input or therapy, just merely existing, I’m going to grab this opportunity with both hands.

Happy to say D is in full on recovery. She has dug deep and made decisions that have changed her life. She hit some absolute lows, trauma from her in patient experiences, Covid restrictions, very limited therapeutic support in the community have meant she did this on her own.

It can also the be the final push *into* an ED. If a person is restricting or on some sort of fasting regime, having all these calories suddenly exposed to them could give that ED voice the authority to start skipping meals, one here, one there, then two, three etc.

It’s incredibly common for a voluntary MH patient to suddenly become a forcibly detained patient when they try and exercise free will. The consultant psychiatrists often feel the need to display the power and control they have over in-patients.
Somehow my ward round went from being discharged because I’m ‘avoiding my trauma’ to not being discharged, not being allowed leave over Christmas despite being an informal patient and being threatened with detention should I try to self discharge. Errr, wtf?

This is what my D was subjected to for over two years, almost daily. We would be on the phone to her and hear the screams and cries of other children being abused in the background. It is normal practice in these hellholes.
Tragically this is the screams you can hear in most adolescent& adult MH units.
It is chilling to hear, especially when you know your child gets brutally restrained for being in distress/ showing emotions 😭💔👇

Inpatient wards do not have a therapeutic environment. It is harsh, noisy, chaotic, brutal, barbaric and above all, abusive. My D came out damaged more by her experiences of restraint, neglect and abuse in a CAMHS PICU.
There was evidence some children’s mental health had deteriorated because of their experiences on units.

This is why ED training needs to be part of all medical professional CPD if not basic training. Statements like that enforce the person’s feelings of rejection, self loathing and feeds that inner voice “See you’re not *that* ill, if you were they’d do something”.
My D needs an iron infusion but the doctor has said “there’s not much point in us giving you iron&magnesium if your not going to fuel yourself & put it into your body afterwards” I am fuming & sad all at once
