It's genuinely sweet to see how this resonated with so many people but it does remind me of the Stav bit where he's like "80% of ethnic groups are exactly the same everyone's like oh we're always late, we eat a lot. You call strangers aunts. Only WASPs are not like this"

Gen Z’s susceptibility to misinformation and disinformation is a danger to us all. What started off as a few joke tweets has now become cemented as the truth in their minds. They really think the world works this way. They really believe this wholeheartedly. This is not good

wait this graph is crazy BART installed anti-fare-hopping gates and the amount of station maintenance and cleanup they had to do went to basically zero strong evidence that the poor condition of public transit is fairly easy to fix + caused by a very small group of people
@maxdubler And there are other real benefits such as fewer corrective maintenance requests and time spent cleaning and fixing things.

I've pointed this out before. 2012, a Marxist academic figure like Andreas Malm was doing solid scholarship on "China as Chimney of the World" about Chinese carbon emissions. By late 2010s he stopped mentioning East Asian industrialization ever again, even though this had been
The problem is that the fashionable Jacobin line on this issue is "capitalism has caused climate change." Academic Marxists go along with this even when their own publications from 00s and early 10s talked about communist countries' terrible environmental record and/or critiqued

As silly as this looks, one must remember that the Japanese left is an evil force. For years her party denied that Japanese citizens were abducted by North Korea, and denounced those who fought for the victims as warmongering conspiracy theorists.
🇯🇵 The leader of the Social Democratic Party, formerly the Socialist Party of Japan, previously decided to rap her way to rally the left. Her party has zero elected members in the House of Representatives.

Everything is downstream of the constitutional "right to a free public education". Positive rights and no price discrimination. You legally must provide Infinity of scarce resources--many are intangible. What you see is the result of people trying to do that
was chatting with my mom about schools and she was lamenting how bad they've become. she wondered aloud how things had gotten this bad. a thousand causes leapt to mind but i stopped myself, and channeled solzhenitsyn to say "i think it boils down to people stopped caring."

They are scouting heaven & earth to find a case where they can claim ICE is so mean that non-progressives will agree. And judging from the various comments about the law I’ve seen on this they’ve still failed. Maybe they thought since this guy was “white” it’d work.
‘Absolute hell’: Irishman with valid US work permit held by Ice since September. Seamus Culleton has been in a detention facility in Texas for nearly five months despite having no criminal record https://t.co/7l8p0tToWY

A priest and a layman are discussing theology. The layman asks "Father, is it acceptable to smoke a cigarette while I pray?" The priest replies "No, for that is a distraction from prayer." The layman muses, nods, asks another question. "Father, is it acceptable to pray while I

They always do this thing where they say “white Americans don’t have any culture, I dare you to even try to tell me what your culture is” because they know that if you tell them what your culture is you’ll look mean
You don’t know what “white culture” is because “white culture” is things like the four year college diploma, electoral democracy, caring about things like ‘the rights of man’ - and more broadly just an entire tradition of thought that favors things like “intellectual honesty.”

The worst part about all of this, as someone who remembers the nineties, is the suspicion that the project of American ethnogenesis might have actually been able to succeed
In 2016, Mamdani’s director of appointments wrote: “It’s important that white people feel defeated.” In 2018, his housing advisor wrote: “Impoverish the *white* middle class.” Mamdani’s own platform called for raising taxes on “richer and whiter neighborhoods.”

You'll miss the American, who deals sharply but cheats no one, who is tougher than the thugs and cleverer than the tricksters, who says "I can do it" when others shrug, and who respects learning but is suspicious of those claiming to be learned, when the last one dies.

@fleshsimulator Wasn't that the son who was involved in multiple violent felonies at the time of his death? Interesting how often criminal conduct resulting in death at the hands of cops gets left out by people pushing a blanket anti-cop agenda.

This “you don’t actually have any culture” act wears thin really fast
"Immigrants are going to replace our culture!" What culture is that, exactly? Is it the Iowa State Fair? Seeing the Hawkeyes play the Cyclones on Saturday night? Eating pork chops on a stick? Church choirs volunteering to help rebuild homes after a tornado? Is it barbacoa on
