Modernity really has, in many ways, destroyed the sensate experiences available to us. There are far too many pleasant sights and tastes and smells and textures available to me at all times for me to fully enjoy them. I sometimes imagine being a peasant during the Han dynasty
I was at the Met in NYC recently and one of the things that always tickles my fancy is the sheer quantity and quality of jewelry and other ornate objects designed for daily wear on display. Modern fashion really is so uncreative.
