My latest article for The Canary on the devastating death of Adrian Poulton, a man with Down's Syndrome, in an NHS hospital. Learning disabled people must be provided with proper support in healthcare to prevent more avoidable deaths. Fund it @wesstreeting
Adrian Poulton starved to death in an NHS hospital - because he lived with Down's syndrome The NHS's catastrophic failure over Adrian Poulton's death is a reminder of the systemic problems in healthcare for disabled people, writes @ChasingGlimmers

Carole Malone is such a loser, she rants on forever with utter nonsense, and when Zack Polanski rips her BS apart she screams over him. It's pathetic.

And the first comment of the day is one saying that if you're 'genuinely' disabled you wouldn't be frightened by the PIP assessment process. I have no words. Anyone got any figures to demonstrate how much PIP is underclaimed because of gaslighting and fear?

Stop bridging. Just use Beacon. We know most don’t want to hear this but when you bridge, you’re taking a risk. Not because of the yield or trade ahead, but because of the infrastructure you rely on to get there. You give up control of your asset & open the door to exploits and

Apparently me being frightened by the DWP means I'm not genuinely disabled. Say it straight 'K' that's what you mean isn't it?

I don't know exactly what Rachel has been through, but I know what it feels like to go through Work Capability and PIP assessments. I can comprehend why people can be left shells of themselves for having to do it. It's not easy.
I'm not a weeper. I live with incredible amounts of pain every day. I go through unthinkable situations that should break me. They don't. Today though, I have cried. I'm so frightened of the DWP and what they have the power to do to me. They destroyed me last time. I can't cope

If all ME/CFS patients lived in one place, it would be the largest city on Earth, a vast, silent city the world chooses not to see, pretends doesn’t exist. When you get this disease, it's honestly like you’re pulled into a black hole, beyond the event horizon, and disappear.

Absolutely disgusting. Sick and disabled people are human beings
We're putting job advisors into GP surgeries across England & Wales as part of our #PlanforChange to help more sick & disabled people into work. It's time to stop treating health & work in isolation. That's why we've announced an extra £167 million investment in #ConnecttoWork

It turns out building things takes a long time. Come to our IRL event next month [COMMA_CON 2025] to see what the team has been cooking the past 10 years. No LIDAR, maps, test drivers, labeling team, or cone guys here. Just a beautiful end-to-end stack crafted by a tiny team.

Clip from yesterday’s Westminster debate on PoTS, Tessa Munt MP @tessamunt raised the case of a constituent’s daughter with #MECFS who believes she also has PoTS. After finally seeing a consultant in Bristol, she was told PoTS was “a TikTok fashion” and refused any testing.

Just another day as a disabled person fielding abuse from the nasties. Why do we have to put up with this? I knew as soon as I stated I can't process verbal information that someone would try to make out I was lying because I can type 🤷 It's relentless

Completely agree. Cannot it just not be accepted that we’re better at diagnosing instead and stop using such negative rhetoric in an attempt to save money. We cannot allow this to keep happening as it’s just fuelling hate against those with disability. A protected characteristic!
"The UK Govt. is to launch a review of the prevalence of mental illness & neurodivergence, with particular focus on whether ADHD & Autism are being overdiagnosed” @HSJnews No it isn’t. What is truly expensive is excluding people for being different @wesstreeting esp in education.

I don’t care what the actual article says. This is an absolutely appalling headline. Everyday we fight stigma from society and the medical profession who believe rest is damaging and lazy. (Spoiler alert: Rest is the ONE thing that actually enables me to do little things)

The vast majority of children permanently excluded from primary school have Special Educational Needs. Let’s change that. Let’s invest in them; not only the right thing to do - the only wise thing to do - because every child either becomes a contributor or a cost to the economy.

To the grocery stores and retail chains hooked on self-checkout: We see exactly what you’re doing. Yesterday, I walked into your store. I picked out my groceries. I scanned them. I bagged them. I paid for them. And then? You stopped me at the door to check my receipt. Wait a

Why stop at GP surgeries! Could have work coaches in A&E trisge, ITU (when you wake up from a coma), roaming medical/surgical wards, care homes, at the crematorium with grieving relatives in case the slackers are not employed.

Just to help Shadow Chancellor @MelJStride with his sums the pro rata monthly amount of PIP, which is paid weekly, ranges from £126.53 to £812.28 a month. Even the max amount for which you need need 24 hour care and not be able to go out unaided is £1200 short of 'thousands'.
He makes at least three major errors about PIP but it is a bit shocking that the shadow Chancellor thinks £187.45 a week - the very maximum - amounts to ‘thousands of pounds a month’. At its lowest it is £29.20 a week.
