Coaches…PLEASE don’t waste the first month of 2022 “whipping your team into shape”.
The random running and “see who pukes” method won’t help your team…in fact, you’ll end up with players hurt.
If you want someone to help your team, I’d be happy to in any way possible.
Just had an athlete walk in our facility who, on Day 1 in a high school weight room, maxed the following lifts today:
1. Clean
2. Bench
3. Deadlift
4. Back squat
THEN completed a 1.5 hour lift…SHE’D NEVER TOUCHED A BARBELL BEFORE.
Suggestions on how to help?
Preseason conditioning for baseball/softball should still focus on SPEED development.
That won’t come from poles and triangles. It comes from max effort sprinting with adequate rest intervals.
Rule of thumb with rest intervals: 1 minute of rest per 10 yards sprinted.
Strength means nothing if you can’t express in your sport.
If you improve your Squat by 25# in a 12 week block, but saw no improvement in your 10s or vertical/broad jumps, then you’re a better lifter…and only that.
Guys like
@Brandon_L_Pigg
have drilled that into me. ✅
Good morning to everyone except coaches who tell 7-12U parents that “scouts” are watching their games all summer.
No scout cares that little Johnny hit 5 “home runs” against the Bazooka Bombers because Timmy couldn’t catch a fly ball.
Anyone else think S&C twitter needs to be banned from their accounts for a few weeks?
Literally scrolled for 3 minutes and saw 500+ tweets about a damn test…go outside or something 😂
I used to joke and the only time I’d ever run again was if it was bigger than me. Well, now it is.
Being the father my daughter needs is bigger than me.
Being healthy enough to play with her for as long as she wants is bigger than me.

The PR is really cool, but his expression after he hit 245 for the first time ever is better.
He immediately wanted 295 on the bar, and I’ll be damned if he didn’t move it faster than 245!
It’s about so much more that the weight on the bar. The real ones know that. 💪🏻

We’ve been exclusively box squatting as our main for the last 12 weeks…if the accessory movements/targeted mobility are right, the hips will be too.
@StrengthDebates
And there’s the bomb we’ve all been preaching about…Showcase and “camp” season is in the MIDDLE of when guys should be rested, lifting, and building for next season….NOT trying to throw their arm out every weekend.
I've been very outspoken in my criticism of the baseball showcase industry as a direct contributor to the escalating injury rates we're seeing in young players. And thanks to this study, we have some even more eye-opening data that demonstrates this trend. (1/)
The not so sexy part of owning your own gym? Spending an hour and a half of your midday break vacuuming and dusting the floors, racks, machines, and dumbbell storage…
The sexy part? Having a clean gym you’re proud as hell to call yours. 🔥🔥
High school baseball and softball players…PLEASE don’t stop lifting in season. I know the schedules make it hard (not sure why you need to play 6+ games per week) but there are ways to make it work.
Even 1 session a week can have you staying strong throughout the season.
Well it’s official, I passed my graduation exam. Baring an utter meltdown in my Cardiovascular Exercise Physiology class, I will graduate with my Master’s in Exercise Science this May. All glory to God!

Wild to see some of these weight rooms schools will invest in, but won’t hire qualified coaches to run them…
Kind of like giving a 6 year old the keys to a Ferrari…
Hell of an end to

750 for a 3x BW lifetime PR!
Now looking forward to diving into a more athletic style of programming and the “C word” cohort in January!

Depends on what you’re referring to as “skill”
Will a 600# deadlift help you shoot free throws? No.
Will it help build a robust/powerful athlete and increase tissue strength and tolerance? Yes.
So seeing as I’m not a free throw coach…I’ll choose strength.
One of the simplest explanations of nutrition I’ve ever seen is:
Calories control your weight
Macros control how you look
Quality controls how you feel

Nate Severance has flown under the radar but is one to fight over. True 5-tool player who is a FREAK athlete with strength and speed. Gets stronger/faster every season and plays the game with passion. DM for contact!

You know what…here’s this. If you’re a Spring sport coach and need a speed/conditioning plan for your team, shoot me a message. I’ll put a plan together for you. I’d rather you do something productive with your teams than just do something random.
Have a kid who’s been in the gym for 4 months…we routinely tell them what color kettlebell to grab for squats, deadlifts, carries, etc.
Dude JUST now told me he’s completely color blind and just grabs what the other kids do. This is coaching 😂😂
@combat_nordic
I’m planning to email the county athletic director to offer some kind of free seminar to teach basic lifts/progression/regression.
I’m hoping that will help.
Guess what?! That nagging Strength Coach that’s been telling you stop running poles and stop doing “25 minute runs” wasn’t just talking out the side of his head after all!

Explained in the comments!
Baseball players are tired after games because they were forced to condition for cross country instead of conditioning for being able to perform multiple explosive movements spaced out over a couple hours.
That’s not my opinion, that’s how the human body works.
Improving my health so I’m at a MUCH lower risk of leaving her and my wife early is bigger than me.
Me leading by example to those around me is bigger than me.
Here’s to uncomfortable, because it’s bigger than me.

Hard working kids aren’t a thing of the past. Intent isn’t dead. There are still some willing to do the work.
We want as many of them as possible at Hybrid. These are the kids that make a difference.
Consistent. Intentional. Work.
More than a gym. Always will be.
Full circle moment today getting to watch this guy do his thing on the mound!
