He begged me to let him squat 100Lbs before I head to spring training, so I caved in since I knew he could do it. Plus it gives him a lot of confidence too. We went up to 103Lbs since I didn’t have a set of 0.5kg plates. He’s excited, I’m proud of him. Big day for this kid! Also,…

He’s 10yrs old, my rule has always been he can’t go past 115% body weight… so this was his last third single at 92Lbs. Looking solid💪… not many kids can do 3 singles at 115% BW. And yes, it is safe for kids to lift, if you don’t believe it I’ll link several papers below:…
Conversation before this throw:
Lee: dad let me throw towards the house because you have more of a chance of breaking a window
Me: no because i throw right to your glove
Lee: but you throw harder and I’ll be careful”
Me: 🤦♂️

I was reminded today a lot of folks still think weight training is dangerous for kids, while the past 24yrs of research say otherwise.

Landmine Squat Press is a great way to develop a power base. It’s an exercise that I don’t think is used enough at the high school level.

He’s 7. He’s been lifting for 3 years, but only when he asks to. My rule for him is he can go up to 115% of his body weight, he can easily do more but form and reps are priority for youth development. LBS/KGs on the bar are not what’s important at this age. It’s just enough…
Proud dad moment. My 6yr old usually asks to squat 2-3 times a week. We usually use his 5kg bar, but today he wanted to use my 20kg mens bar, and he did great. (Longer bar, harder to balance). He’s 50Lbs and the bar is 44 Lbs, and he’s been squatting with weights for 2 years.

Alex’s squat video went viral. And of course those that have zero qualifications to have an opinion are coming after me, lesson learned is to only worry about criticism from those you value advice from. It’s sad when a positive post about a kid gets attacked on Twitter.
This is my client George. He’s in his mid 70s. And he backsquats while others his age are in nursing homes and walkers. This goes to show if you live an active lifestyle you can do anything. If you have older parents or grandparents get them moving!!

A history lesson for everyone re: the stunting growth myth. It came from a study from the 1960s on child labor in Chinese mines. They couldn’t determine whether stunted growth came from carrying heavy loads or malnourishment people erred on the don’t lift side. (1/2)

please stop with the bad training videos. All you’re doing is giving kids bad ideas on what training looks like. Not everyone has a qualified coach to prevent this kind of stupidity.

Lee’s squats are getting really solid. We finished off with 2 sets of 1 over his body weight. He is 6 and started lifting when he was 3. We usually only go to 12-14 KGs for reps but every now & then we go to BW for fun

I want to address the topic about recovery position that’s gone viral. Hands on knees is optimal for HIGH INTENSITY training, here’s a link to the specific study referenced in the viral post. No need to debate me, it’s science & I didn’t conduct the study

You’re a body transformation coach, not a strength & conditioning or high performance coach so please stop giving back advice in areas you don’t know. Stick to body transformation amd let those of us who work with athletes handle athletes.

This has to be a joke. They’re 10U If it’s real someone needs to be kicked out of baseball and banned from working with children... are the parents seriously ok with this? 😡
Ive been helping some high school coaches by reviewing their S&C programming the past few weeks.The biggest thing missing from most are the injury reduction exercises. We need to remember, S&C is to help performance but more importantly is to help reduce injury risk in the sport

1975 called and wants it’s myth back. 22 years of research says you’re wrong. Start by reading Faigenbaum et al 1999. Or do you think kids shouldn’t play football soccer basketball or hockey either since more load & force is applied to their muscles & ligaments.
@JPullen_11
Yeah, so I competed in 2 world championships and 3 pan ams, have 3 silver medals from those meets when I was on team USA. I have degrees & experience in sports science & exercise science, so if my son asks to lift with me, I am happy to teach him for as long as he wants to do it

Watch 7, once they calibrate to me I’ll be doing a 3 month study and comparing them daily. Let’s find out which is best for athletes & which is best for general public. I have my hypothesis but curious to what you guys think
Let’s be very clear here.
@CrossFit
just pushed an agenda to allow “trainers” who have heard a 45 min talk zone diet to write nutrition plans for the public. This is irresponsible & dangerous, & should be left to the professionals. What’s next, CF trainers giving medical advice?
In a significant victory for CrossFit affiliates and trainers, on June 30, 2020, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed the Occupational Freedom and Opportunity Act (HB 1193) ...
My rule for my kids has been they can go up to 115% of their body weight. This is 114% and he crushed it! 40kg/88Lbs at 9 years old. My 7 year old repping out with my 45Lb barbell.
And before the uninformed chime in, the stunting growth myth was proved wrong back in 1999 and…
You need a flat hard surface to apply force into the floor when doing a squat or hip hinge pattern … shoes like this or shoes with a soft sole (running shoes) don’t just prevent you from applying maximum force, they also could contribute to poor form which may lead to injury.
The goal of a successful S&C program is to lower injury risk by preparing athletes for the stresses of their sport. Performance gains are secondary. It seems like a lot of people in high school sports don’t realize this. Training volume adjusts in season but is still necessary
If you’re a S&C coach & dont understand the bioenergetics & biomechanics involved in each position for every sport you train, you arent doing the quality job your athletes trust you to do. (Baseball workouts shouldnt look like soccer workouts) This is the hill I will die on today
@BleacherReport
No. Workouts aren’t leveling up, it’s just anyone regardless of qualifications can call themselves a coach or Rainer, resulting in dangerous and wreckless training like this.
MOST athletes can benefit from lifting heavy while in season. Heavy doesn’t mean maxing. Variables would be: training age, level of sport (recreation, HS, College, pro), game schedule, overall physiological strain, and most importantly a s&c coach who understands the sport!
13 months–13 dead high school football players. TBD but 3 traumatic & 10 nontraumatic deaths. As many as 7 heatstroke deaths. How many dead children are too many to make football training safe? These nontraumatic training/practice deaths are preventable!

As a certified nutritionist I’m 100% against this. Chocolate milk is great. How about fix the actual school lunch and provide quality food like other countries. Perhaps the nachos grande and the fried chicken nuggets should go first before chocolate milk.
Neighborhood tradition on the last day of school. Parents vs kids. This year the kids were smart and hid their super soakers at the stop before ours and got them and came out firing.
Is it safe for kids to lift weights?
💯% YES! All the research post 1999 supports it
👉it stimuluates bone density
👉it builds confidence & athleticism
👉the old myth of stunting growth has been proven false by scientific research
How should kids learn?
@TheNewAthlete
@LWOSTonyGennaro
the only irresponsible thing happening is unqualified individuals making negative comments over a post of a kid exercising under supervision of an qualified expert in youth training. You get the degrees, experience, certifications, and read the research, then have an opinion.

💯Having an Athletic Trainer & qualified strength & conditioning coach working together goes way beyond sports performance. The primary benefit is athlete safety. With all the research available its not fair to our youth that by now this isnt a safety standard nationwide
#nhssca
Qualified Strength & Conditioning professionals (as well as Athletic Trainers) should be a requirement at every high school. It’s not about making kids stronger or faster, it’s about injury risk reduction and reducing preventable accidents

My son plays 8U⚾️. My wife texted me that at the game after my son’s, a coach of another team punched the ump in the face, & another parent on of that team pulled a gun. At freakin 8U over a plastic ring that costs $1 🤯. Today, in metro Atlanta, baseball and the kids all lost 😞
Anthony Fauchi is 79 years old. Yeah his first pitch the other night was really really bad but to all the “coaches” making fun... it’s not a good look.

Walking through the Atlanta airport a woman stops me and says “did you write this book?!” And had Move Like a Pro up on her phone 🤯. Made my night! She got the book for her son who plays little league in Tampa.
My 10yr old just sent me this video, he hit a 75Lb clean last night! Super proud of him.
And no, lifting weights does not stunt growth. If you believe that, your knowledge is 24 years old.
@CoachHylland
I’m not technically a football coach yet I cant disagree with you more. There’s plenty of kids that need FB to help them learn teamwork, work ethic, & the fitness habits. Not to mention the kids that need it for the acidemic push. That’s a shame you feel that way as a coach
Young coaches often ask about certifications. Certs don’t make a coach, but do show he/she has the minimum education needed to do the job at the minimum acceptable standard. They are NOT all equal. I have done 26 but only ever list the 5 that are quality & credible. Chose wisely!
@HillJordh14
Respectfully I disagree with this. If a kid is proud and excited to get an offer let him enjoy his moment and share it. I will always congratulate a kid on getting an offer to continue their dream regardless of if they play for me or not.
