Me: I'm a math teacher. Them: Oh, I hated math in school. Also, what's with this new way of teaching math? Why don't they just teach it the way we were taught? Me:

This video from @gfletchy explains multiplication from 2nd to 5th grades and applies to middle and high school teachers too (think: distributive property, polynomial multiplication, etc.). https://t.co/NUtLiZPaTV #MTBoS

Thank you, Kelce brothers, for proving, yet again, that when you teach kids to memorize procedures (Jason) They can’t apply them to basic computation later. When allowed to think about what they know and build from their number sense, they nail it (Travis). This is fluency.

I write a lot of puzzles, but really like this one. Goal? Solve using reasoning & mental math, which means simple equations and arithmetic. Nothing fancy here is needed. Just "sense making" about what each equation means, separately and together. Thanks for posting. Enjoy!

Retake policies in most schools are based on serious misconceptions that thwart any possibility of success. This articles helps guide the development of effective policies that evidence shows can and do work. https://t.co/QImlsFNEWD
