Lunch in Portugal! Fernando, on the right, took care of all my mom's banking needs when she'd go to his branch. He retired 2 years ago and went home to Lisbon. Today, I got to thank him for being so nice to her.

A new proposal from @CMSgov under @DrOz wants to add catheters, ostomy & trach supplies to Medicare’s competitive bidding program. This is a bad idea and will worsen outcomes for seniors & Medicare recipients. My latest in @MedPageToday explains why ⬇️

And I've never enjoyed a day of PD as much as today. Our w-hole team feels lucky and blessed to be able to work with so many talented and passionated teachers. I cannot wait to continue the important work we have begun, next school year. I think it's the start of something great!.

Common Core requires fluency within 100 and memorization of single-digit facts in Gr 3. Canada waits 2 more years and doesn't require kids to know any facts from memory? Too many U.S. states subtly took out the automaticity standard as well. Fluency & automaticity BOTH important!
I've been reviewing Canadian math curricula (standards) this week. Here's a BC grade 5 outcome titled "multiplication & division facts to 100." As if this all weren't bad enough, we have "memorization of facts is not intended at this level." Grade 5! Wish I could unsee this.

Yes, it's definitely our goal! We want to raise the bar for math PD. We will not offer a haphazard assortment of make-it-up-as you-go strategies & sessions. Our school test scores are showing clearly there is a very effective way to teach and learn math. Thanks for your support!.
