On Thursday I’m introducing a bathroom bill that would compel NYC to meet a goal of 1 public 🚽 per 2000 residents by 2035. Why?. 💩 You gotta go when you gotta go.🩸 For menstruation equity.👵🏽 For our older adults.👶🏻 For the babies.🚴🏽♀️ For workers.🧑🤝🧑 For everyone!. 🧵/1
Tomorrow, the city council will introduce a bill that would require NYC to come up with a plan "establishing and maintaining a public bathroom network," and create 4,200 new public toilets by 2035. A Porcelain New York exclusive:.

Indefinitely pausing congestion pricing is taking NYC in the wrong direction! Our public transit system is in need of investments and expansions. We need upgraded and accessible subways & faster and electrified buses. New Yorkers need reliable transit – not more delays.
NEW: @GovKathyHochul is considering delaying the implementation of congestion pricing, as concerns mount that the controversial policy could hurt Dems in tight races this year. W/ @JCColtin & @NickReisman:.

Up early with @thenyic @MaketheRoadNY and Council Members @CMJulieWon @CMShahanaHanif and @crystalrhudson to welcome asylum seekers who have been cruelly bussed to NYC from TX. Today a woman with a 6 day old baby arrived after a 3 day bus journey.

NYC spent an immense amount of money to a consulting firm to advise on how to build large outdoor tents for asylum seekers in a flood prone parking lot. Then rebuilt it on Randall’s Island. If he’s looking at costs, maybe he should reflect on the costly mistakes he’s made.
The letter Eric Adams sent the City Council late last night that's caused outrage - asking the council to give up some of its discretionary funding if they want to support asylum-seekers so badly. Story to come.

Once again, @NYCMayor is investing in a militarized police force, rather than in evidence-based public safety strategies. This time he spends our tax dollars on dystopian robot “dogs”. We stopped this before and will again. My statement with @NYCCouncil38 @CabanD22 @CMChiOsse

The tax lien sale is a racial justice issue. The city is six times more likely to sell liens on homes in majority Black neighborhoods than in white ones. It can only be described as a city-facilitated land grab. I hope all my colleagues will join us not reauthorizing the sale.
“The tax lien sale is a racial justice issue. Last year over 2000 liens were sold and a lot were from this area…I thank @EastNewYorkCLT for doing the good work this winter. Let’s ensure this lien sale does not get renewed. It’s on all of @NYCCouncil,” say @CMSandyNurse

The veto of @NYCCouncil’s critical package of housing bills by @NYCMayor is shameful. We need to focus on solutions and this action is counterproductive.
Mayor Adams just vetoed a package of bills to expand CityFHEPS eligibility, based on the estimated cost. The Council and an analysis by the Community Service Society dispute those cost estimates. The bills passed with a veto-proof majority. More here:.

In light of 700+ sexual assault allegations by women detained on #Rikers, it’s urgent that @NYCMayor reverses course on plans to detain more women in the new jails. As women, we know more compassionate solutions for safety exist. Our letter to the Mayor:

$30 million in cuts to @NYCSanitation by @NYCMayor - $210 million over four years - is shortsighted. Defunding community composting, cutting litter basket service and reducing targeted cleaning services is not how you “Get Stuff Done”. My statement on today’s announcement:

Unhoused people need access to housing and resources, not to be harassed and traumatized by law enforcement. We'll never be able to police our way out of homelessness. It's time to disband the notoriously violent SRG.
The NYPD claims that their role is to "keep the peace" when they clear homeless encampments. But as we've seen over the last several weeks, that's far from reality. Unhoused NYers need services + support, not to be traumatized by police. It's time to disband the SRG.

Arresting homeless people will never end homelessness! Only housing will. This disgraceful ruling hurts people who have no place to go. This gives the green light for localities to lock up homeless people and gives cover to Mayors who want to police the issue vs. solve it!.
The Supreme Court on Friday upheld an Oregon city’s laws aimed at banning homeless residents from sleeping outdoors, saying they did not violate the Constitution’s prohibition on cruel and unusual punishment.

Every single person I’ve spoken with on Rikers had problems with the commissary including the costs and that many items were often unavailable. Detainees and their families, who are predominantly low income, should not face price gouging by large companies while in our care.
The Adams’ administration has awarded a $33 million contract to a Rikers a concessionaire that has charged incarcerated people prices twice as high as those at local stores. In doing so, they overrode the contract’s rejection by the comptroller.
