18 years ago, Detective Russel Timoshenko was senselessly murdered in the line of duty. Russel gave everything in service to this city, and this morning, the NYPD joined his family to honor his legacy. We will never forget his sacrifice. May his memory be a blessing.

Both the Memorial Day and July 4th holidays in New York City this year were the safest on record for gun violence!. It’s not rocket science: unprecedented number of illegal guns taken off the streets; relentless focus on gang takedowns; and a massive deployment of cops in the.

Drones are flying overhead — and while the NYPD can track them, we can’t act to mitigate them, even when there’s a clear threat. That has to change. Currently, only a handful of federal agencies have the ability to counteract drone flights, and these agencies are only deployed.

Update: a man was dropped off at Brookdale Hospital by private means at 1:30am on July 5th. He was pronounced dead this morning. NYPD detectives just determined he was shot at 11:46pm on July 4th.

For most Americans, Independence Day is about celebrating with family and friends. But for many members of the NYPD, today is another roll call, another detail, another day at work. While this is all part of the job, New Yorkers are incredibly fortunate to have their unwavering.

Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks is one of this city’s most iconic events. Tomorrow, the NYPD will be out in full force to secure the celebration. Thousands of cops will provide real-time coverage on the ground, in the air, and from the water to monitor crowds & keep everyone safe.

This kind of precise enforcement is the reason that midway through 2025, shootings are 20% lower than last year’s record low in Brooklyn. None of this would be possible without the important work of our Gun Violence Suppression Division and our partnership with the @BrooklynDA.

For too long, R2R gang members carried out shootings in broad daylight near schools and on busy Brooklyn streets — with no regard for human life. But they were no match for NYPD detectives, who’ve conducted over 40 gang takedowns and seized over 230 illegal guns this year.

The crime results speak for themselves. From January-June 2025:. ➡️Fewest shooting victims EVER recorded in the first half of the year. ➡️Fewest shooting incidents on record – tying the all-time low. ➡️Murders down 23% – the second-lowest ever recorded during that time.

The first six months of 2025 tell a clear story: New York City is achieving record-breaking public safety milestones. This is because of the leadership of @NYCMayor, and the men and women of the NYPD who have put in grueling hours to make New York safer than it’s been in years.

We were blown away today by the outpouring of support for @GOALny and their right to march in the Pride Parade. We will continue this fight until LGBTQ+ members of the NYPD — the very people who protect this event — are allowed to participate in uniform once again.

We are shocked and deeply offended that Heritage of Pride has decided to exclude LGBTQ+ members of the NYPD from participating in the Pride March. It is the height of hypocrisy that uniformed officers from @GOALny are fit to line the route and keep everyone safe, but they are.

NYC’s Pride March is the largest of its kind in the country, and the NYPD will be out on Sunday keeping everyone safe. New Yorkers can expect an increased police presence along the parade route and other security measures to ensure people can celebrate freely and without fear.
