To pave the way for the future, we also need to take a good look at how we’re teaching and training STEM students in schools and universities. All of us who work in STEM need to ensure we’re creating safe, welcoming, and flexible environments. (7/9)
Once women enter STEM fields, they face barriers to advancement. Women typically get smaller research grants than male colleagues & in the US, the % of women gets smaller as you go higher up the leadership hierarchy, especially women of color (6/9)

According to a study by Microsoft, most girls (72%) believe it’s important to have a career that directly helps the world; only 37% believe STEM careers would let them do that. By studying the processes underlying major psychiatric diseases, we hope to help change that! (5/9)
We have generated a comprehensive single cell RNA-seq and ATAC-seq atlas of the developing mouse neocortex, sampling all cell types every day during embryonic corticogenesis and computationally inferred developmental trajectories across the diversity of cortical cell classes.
The numbers vary widely by discipline, with engineering and computational fields showing the largest disparity (). Organizations like
@GirlsWhoCode
address this by encouraging young girls to participate in tech fields. (4/9)
