🚨New post - polynomial features series🚨. We explore a nice property of high degree polynomials - with the "right" basis they can be pruned! Pruning removes noise preserving the overall shape, demonstrated on the California Housing dataset.

Recently, I learned something that I believe many #MachineLearning practitioners will find surprising about polynomial features. We're all taught to avoid high degree polynomials. We're taught that they oscillate and overfit! Turns out, it's a myth.

@Mukhin_Alexey Украинская Советская Республика является одним из основателей ООН. Белорусь тоже. А РФСР нет. Так какого чёрта РФ является постоянним членом СовБеза ООН? Это даже не страна основатель. К статье, у КНР и Тайвань та-же история. Интересные выводы можно сделать с этого заявления.

Black and white are the prototypical metaphor for opposites, and "gray" is the metaphor for a compromise.

@xruisx @NTarnopolsky @EliotHiggins Israel has a multi layered anti missile defence system. Iron dome is only the lowest layer, and it can't protect a huge country like Ukraine. The US has better options - Patriot batteries.

@publiusPHL @KyivIndependent No. It's just the opposite of "front line". And the actual Russian word used can be translated as "nape", so there is no pun intended here. Although I'd pretty much like to see them get it deeper in their rear.

@Rael_Mukti @Michael_Wgd It is directly relevant. It is the justification of eradicating Hamas in Gaza. Hamas was 25,000 militants on Oct 7th. Typical combatant to civilian ratio in dense urban warfare is 1:3. Therefore, the civilian casualties aren't "unprecedented" and there's no genocide.

@HolyKanolie @KyivIndependent Peace requires a partner. who will honor a peace agreement and will not demand capitulation in exchange for peace. That's impossible without Russian defeat on the battlefield. There can be no sustainable peace without a Russian defeat.

@APompliano @elonmusk You cannot see even if it's open source. Most ML algorithms produce very accurate but totally uninterpretable models. Creating models which are both accurate and interpretatable is a research field in its infancy.

@_freepeace_ @EylonALevy The blockade had nothing to do with Hamas firing thousands of rockets into Israel between 2005 and 2006, following Israeli withdrawal in 2005, right?. In 2005 they faced a choice. They chose rockets in place of prosperity.

@GonzaloLira1968 Russia cannot "win". The manpower required to occupy such a huge territory is enormous. They don't have it. They can get a symbolic achievement which they will sell as a "victory". But they can't amass the manpower required to "win".
