OUT TODAY! My new book, Autocrats vs. Democrats, looks at the challenges posed by autocratic Russia and China and explains how/why the U.S. must lead the democratic world in response. Available in stores or online: https://t.co/fLOoG1j8me

Many people (Machado, Rubio, European leaders, Graham, Zelenskyy) still think that praising and appeasing Trump will produce good outcomes. There’s little data to support that hypothesis. Maybe they rightly assess that they have no other choice. I understand. But the flattery

Europe’s failure to condemn Trump’s illegal aggression in Venezuela isn’t just wrong – it’s stupid. My piece @guardian

The more European countries act as colonies, unable and unwilling to stand up to Trump, the more they’ll be treated as such, says Guardian Europe columnist Nathalie Tocci

I do not want Venezuela I do not want Greenland. I do not want Cuba. I do not want Canada. I do not want Mexico. I just want healthcare.

Trump wants to go back to the 19th century. China is focused on winning the 21st century. If we Americans don’t change our ways in the world, we are in big trouble.

What? This is crazy. Talk about abandoning your voters to help multi-billion dollar companies. US may subsidize oil companies to rebuild Venezuela's energy infrastructure, Trump says

The United States may subsidize oil companies to enable them to rebuild Venezuela's energy infrastructure, President Donald Trump said in an interview with NBC News on Monday.

You would have e to be a fool as a CEO of an American oil company to make some massive long-term investment commitment in Venezuela guaranteed only by the word of Trump and Rodriguez. Neither will be in power in 3 years time.

What polling evidence is there that suggests that the American people support invading countries to seize their oil on behalf of US oil companies? Please post links.

We all moved on from 19th-century imperialism for a reason. Dreaming of going back to it is futile and dangerous for America's long-term national interests.
This is the thing: Trump is no neocon. These aren’t military actions for normative reasons, like democracy. This is 19th century stuff: gunboat diplomacy, tariffs, etc: The US gets what it wants, and you don’t. In this case: hopes for more oil + fewer drugs and migrants.

In his first presser after the operation, Trump mentioned the word 'oil' a dozen times but did not say the word 'democracy' once. That tells you everything about the priorities on display, and this must change. Clip @PsakiBriefing. More on my Substack https://t.co/SdY0bDV2Zb
