My beautiful mother passed away this morning. She was my ray of sunshine, and I’m not sure how I’ll cope without her. Please keep her in your prayers.
إِنَّا لِلّهِ وَإِنَّـا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ
We have two Tory candidates for Prime Minster both committed to banning workers from striking. Yet, Keir Starmer is the enemy? Get a grip.
If you break collective responsibility and announce policies on the hoof, expect to be sacked.
I wondered who would be so childish to respond to my valid claims about Bliar being a war criminal with weak ad hominem insults a five year old would be ashamed of… I got my answer; Abdi officially part of the cabal. Shame on
@UKLabour
no wonder you are haemorrhaging voters 😃
Didn’t think I would have to post this, but it needs to be heard. Last night, at end of a brilliant night with friends I found myself in the middle of a homophobic attack.
Two innocent gay men standing next to me on Clapham High St were slapped by a woman for kissing.
'The mayor of the greatest city in the world needs protection 24 hours a day, seven days a week because of the colour of his skin and the god he worships, that can't be right.'
Read more here:
This may shock the virtue signallers, but Labour MPs were in the commons voting against the anti trade union proposals. Not preaching to the converted.
Reading Twitter you’d think Keir Starmer was PM. He’s not.
If you’re angry about the incompetence of this government, look to Jeremy Corbyn and his cult who led us to worst defeat since 1935 and gifted the Tories an 80 seat majority.
I'm honoured to have been elected onto Labour’s National Executive Committee tonight.
All of the
@labtowin
candidates ran to focus
@UKLabour
on winning elections and looking outwards.
I will stay true to that promise and work everyday to achieve a Labour government. 1/
A bit late: Corbyn's leadership led to Labour’s worst result in 84 yrs. The only thing he succeeded in, was handing the Tories an 80 seat majority.
He has shown no contrition nor regret since the EHRC report was published. Thus, I voted not to allow him to be a Labour candidate.
I intervened and a friend of hers came out of nowhere and knocked me to the ground shouting homophobic slurs.
Thankfully the excellent security & management at
@2BrewersClapham
intervened and the police were swift to arrest. I am more or less unscathed barring an injured wrist.
Really excited to be running for
@UKLabour
’s NEC as part of the
@labtowin
team!
I want to work with members in CLPs across the country, our leadership team and shadow cabinet to make the Labour Party election ready.
Utter nonsense, especially when the Labour Party is the most electable it has been since 1997.
Blocking problematic candidates from standing isn’t a purge it’s a sign we’re not going to tolerate poor candidates.
George Galloway is a disgrace who has always sought to benefit from dividing communities.
He has never faced oppression or racism, he revels in pretending to be the saviour of underrepresented communities.
Calling him a leech is generous.
Great to see the erasure of the first black Shadow Foreign Secretary, David Lammy. Stop using our identity for your pathetic attempts to make a factional point.
Labour love to call Tories racist. But this is their top team while Tories had a black Chancellor & brown Home Sec (however useless).
Meanwhile they block a black councillor who has been subject to racist policing & a Labour MP said Kwarteng didn’t ‘sound black’. Who is racist?
Congratulations to my best pal
@izzyjengalenga
on winning in South Hampstead. Despite the vile antisemitic abuse she faced, the haters didn’t win.
The people of South Hampstead have elected a dedicated activist who’s experience and hard work needs no explaining 🌹👏🏾
I’m black and Muslim, you do not speak for me. I feel entirely safe in the Labour Party. If someone doesn’t we have an independent complaints process that will robustly deal with it.
@mrjamesob
is ecstatic about Labour's sudden popularity. We are apparently "Safe with Starmer". Not if you're Muslim, Black, left-wing or the wrong kind of Jew, as
@MizJama
shows.
Jeremy Hunt describes himself as a compassionate conservative.
It’s a timely reminder of the difference between a so called ‘compassionate conservative’ and ‘conservative’.
For some electing a Labour Government was never their ambition, because to protest and shout from the sidelines is all too easy & comfortable for them.
If they can’t accept the Labour Party is a party of government and not of protest, then their membership will not be missed 👋🏾.
I can’t reply to Diane so quote tweeting this.
I missed out ‘man’, which I corrected in the tweet I followed up with, but it’s very nice of her to unleash her Twitter trolls.
The SNP called a debate on a ceasefire, and the speaker broadened that debate.
The SNP now want to remove the speaker, making clear this debate was never serious about a ceasefire, it was playing politics and trying to seek divisions in parliament.
They should be ashamed.
Ok, let me explain to Alex why Corbyn’s 40% vote share was pointless.
The Corbyn project built up support in areas Labour already held, and made very marginal gains in cities.
A high vote share (40%) is pointless if it doesn’t translate into seats won. 1/3
Abdi, leaving aside that this is factually wrong, what has it got to do with how polling works? You used a clown emoji so presumably it’s easy for you to point out my error. I think you just said something you thought made you sound clever without understanding it yourself.
Ready for
@PrideInLondon
, this years pride is a bit of an emotional one for me, it’s the first I’ll march in since I came out.
Big up the
@LGBTLabour
family for all their continued love and support 🏳️🌈
Ballots have arrived for Labour's NEC elections.
I'm running so the NEC represents the full breadth of our movement, continues to look outwards and remains focused on winning elections.
I hope I can count on your first preference to help me win.
‘Labour is ahead in the polls, so let’s have a leadership challenge’ 🤡. This clownery is why we’ve lost 4 elections. Keir Starmer is doing an amazing job 👏🏾
I’m delighted to be on the ballot for Labour’s National Executive Committee elections this summer. I’m standing because I want our Party to be ready to fight and win the next election. Join my campaign 👇 1/5
@UKLabour
message to the black community: those who work tirelessly in your interests over decades, representing the party at a local level, should not apply for parliament. We want your votes but not your voice.
It may shock my unnamed colleague, but some of us didn’t join the NEC to just moan about the leadership. I joined to make the Labour Party electable again and volunteering to sit on one or two panels a week is no problem.
Another NEC member suggests Duale's claim to have done a "dozen panels" is "unlikely" since he's only been on NEC since 27 Sept, 9 weeks ago. "Either unlikely, or he’s getting asked to do a significant number more than the rest of us."
Hard to state how terrifying this is. Less than 6 months ago, I found myself in the middle of a homophobic attack outside the same venue.
Thankfully the staff were on hand to intervene, how many times is this going to happen for it to be taken seriously?
What Keir says here is utterly opposed to the platform he ran on in his fraudulent leadership campaign, in every sense.
It's a betrayal of the members and trade unions who elected him.
"We are a patriotic party and it is our patriotic duty to vote for these measures to ensure that they go through."
Sir Keir Starmer says in a statement that Labour will support the government's Covid Plan B measures in Tuesday's Commons vote.
The irony of this. The last Labour leadership (which Laura supported unequivocally) left the Labour Party with the worst election result since 1935.
2.5 years on and the party is now leading the polls by 13%. That is what effective leadership looks like.
The problem with no effective opposition is that right wing arguments proliferate, imaginations become confined by their framework, limiting confidence & expectations, dulling fury. We must fill political void with arguments & organising for the alternative we know is possible.
I have resigned as chair of Uxbridge and South Ruislip CLP. I am also resigning my membership of the Labour Party.
Politics needs to have principles or we end up with people like Boris Johnson and Liz Truss running the country,
Jeremy Corbyn gave a huge boost to the Labour Party
Complete and utter nonsense, you don’t have a monopoly on supporting workers. To try and make this into some factional divide is pathetic and desperate, try harder.
There is a clear dividing line in this years NEC elections.
Those of us who will always defend the rights of workers and stand with them.
And those who stand by while workers are told to accept pay cuts and jobs losses from greedy bosses during in a cost of living crisis.
As Labour conference comes to an end, what a privilege it has been to chair part of conference but to also meet so many amazing Labour activists.
As Keir Starmer said in his speech, we are ready to govern!
Really excited to have been elected as Vice Chair of Labour’s NEC Equalities committee, looking forward to working with our new chair
@angelaeagle
and the rest of the committee.
Massive shoutout to the outgoing Chair
@JamesAsser
who did a splendid job!
I don’t think Keir Starmer is going to need advice on how to win or what to do in Government from the clowns who handed Boris Johnson an 80-seat majority and ran the Labour Party into the ground.
More silence, over extended periods of time on their part would hugely be welcomed.
Apologising is clearly the right thing to do here and a rarity in politics these days. Hopefully our former leader can take some lessons, after all, ‘sorry’ really was the hardest word for him.
Can’t build affordable housing if you oppose building homes in the places people want to live.
This is a very good demonstration of having the comfort of never having to govern, but spout pointless platitudes.
The Green Party is launching its local election campaign today, with an emphasis on affordable housing. But does the party oppose building new housing?
@BBCNickRobinson
asks co-leader Carla Denyer.

Being forced to leave your home in pursuit of peace is the hardest decision a person can make. I know this from my parents’ own experience as refugees, fleeing from war-torn Somalia to the UK.
My article for
@LabourList
A strong and confident speech from Keir Starmer, outlining how 13 years of Tory failure have crippled our public services. But also how an incoming Labour Govt would secure a long term Green economic plan.
Every word of this.
To say the number of antisemitism cases was exaggerated is reprehensible & exactly why we must continue rooting it out.
Far from being exaggerated, the latest figures on complaints in the party shows that 65% of disciplinary cases are in relation to AS.
"Jeremy only has his self to blame"
"You know perfectly well what I said"
Watch
@leicesterliz
and
@jeremycorbyn
clash over his suspension from the Labour whip.

Congrats to Labour’s first ever MP for Mid Bedfordshire
@alistrathern
on a historic win. The people of Mid Beds have voted for the change our country so desperately needs.
These swings in a GE would see less than 100 Conservative MPs left in Parliament. Roll on that election! 🌹
5 months of solid canvassing & by my calculations more than 72 hours on the

I wanted to campaign in as many council’s as possible, I made it to:
Barnet
Wandsworth
Birmingham
Tower Hamlets
Ealing
Harrow
Haringey
Camden
Lambeth
Westminster
Stevenage 1/2
The Labour Party has launched the second cohort of The Bernie Grant Leadership Programme, a programme focused on empowering Black Labour Party members to take up leadership positions.

When my parents arrived in the UK fleeing war in Somalia, they legally earned under £1.50 an hour.
The minimum wage transformed the lives of my family and hundreds of thousands of workers. Just another reminder the difference a Labour Government makes.

The change gives an overnight pay rise to over two million people - more than half of them in the service sector
Thread on the battle to introduce it 👇🏼
What an amazing polling day operation!
Thanks to all the Labour members who spent the last few weeks leafleting, doorknocking, and phonebanking. The positivity you bring is exhilarating.
And to the unsung heroes that are Labour staffers who drop all of their personal 1/2
This is very distasteful, but unsurprising for those of us who come from working class backgrounds and don’t subscribe to the vibes based politics of the hard left.
Great to speak
@UKLabour
and
@LGBTLabour
’s LGBT+ History Month event.
I accidentally said it was 100 years since the last Labour Government, which it actually feels like! I also highlighted that nearly 1/4 of our new parliamentary candidates are LGBT+. The largest we’ve ever had
Easy to forget how far the Labour Party has come in four years.
From near annihilation in 2019 to a party ready to win in 2024 and ready to be at the service of the British people once again.
#OTD
2019. Election. Boris Johnson and the Conservative Party win majority of 80.
Labour drop to lowest number of MPs since 1935.
Johnson tells lifelong Labour voters who switched: “I will never take your support for granted".
🧵 Ballots for Labour’s NEC elections drop on Monday. These crucial elections will be under a preferential voting system.
In order to maximise number of moderates we elect to the NEC, we’re asking you to vote in the following order depending on the region/nation you live in 1/4
I have never said anything negative about Diane on this platform, despite my disagreements. Because I respect the fact she broke so many glass ceilings throughout her career.
So it’s a shame to see her tweets.
Good luck to all Labour candidates running tomorrow, what inspiring campaigns they have run.
A big thank you to all the Labour councillors stepping down for all their hard work these past 4 years, and to the Labour activists & staff who have been instrumental these past weeks.🌹
Taking action against a terrorist group that’s attacked UK Vessels is in our country’s self defence, Jeremy.
Wouldn’t expect a man who always finds himself supporting the wrong side to acknowledge that.
Military action in Yemen by the UK & US government is a reckless act of escalation that will only cause more death and suffering.
It is utterly disgraceful that Parliament has not even been consulted.
When will we learn from our mistakes and realise that war is not the answer?
Ballots for Labour’s NEC close in 5 days. I am proud to be a

candidate, alongside

The last Labour govt transformed my family’s life and that’s why I want to serve on the NEC, so that we can do that again.
There is nothing odd about singing the national anthem of the country we seek to govern. Under Keir Starmer, the Labour Party is once again a patriotic party ready for government.
"Very odd"
That's what Jeremy Corbyn thinks of the decision to sing the national anthem at the Labour Party conference this weekend

Incredibly moving vigil for the hostages taken by Hamas.
Children, elders, men and women, torn out of their homes by the murderous cult of Hamas.
The message here was clear, the international community must do all it can to bring them home.
2023 was a great year for Labour - a record number of new cllrs, becoming the largest party in local govt and many by-election successes.
For me personally, chairing Labour Conference was an immense honour as it was to continue to represent my trade union
