30k excess deaths in care homes, at least 20k due to Covid. 25k elderly people discharged from hospitals to care homes without tests & staff left without PPE. All this after a decade of cuts to social care. And Johnson blames care homes. Really, a new low.

Following today’s terrible new figures on #COVID19 care home deaths from @ONS and @CQCpressoffice I have written to @MattHancock outlining 6 areas where further practical steps are required to reduce the spread of the virus, protect care users & staff & bring death rates down

I remember Naomi Eisenstadt who ran Sure Start Unit for 7yrs once said “Politicians think delivering policy is issuing a press statement. Civil servants think it’s issuing a circular. Only people on the ground know long hard work of really making it happen.” Always stuck with me

The PM's "plans to transform the...skills system" is very welcome. But PMs have announced "radical reforms" to the skills system every other year for 3 decades. Success requires relentless focus on delivery. Does that play to this government's strengths? #justasking

Women in their 50s & 60s are in the prime of their lives but too many have to give up work because they can’t get the help they need to look after an older or disabled relative. Today I outlined @UKLabour ’s plan to tackle the care crisis & help women balance work & family life.

Fantastic news!!! @NHSEngland decides to keep children’s heart surgery at Glenfield. Huge thanks to all the staff, patients & families, campaigners & MPs who’ve supported our campaign. We couldn’t have done it without you!

Just been on call with Minister about #LeicesterLockdown . The great news is our pubs, cafes, bars & restaurants can re-open and people can go on holiday with their own household. But leisure centres, gyms & pools still closed, and no meeting up with other households indoors. 1/2

The Labour Party today is unrecognisable from 2019 and we are never going back. So very well said @Keir_Starmer : “Let’s keep changing Labour. Then let’s change the country.”

Social care staff must be valued equally to those who work in the NHS. But this means getting them proper protective equipment, #Covid_19 testing and a decent salary more than a brand or a badge.

We don’t boo the English football team for taking the knee against racism, we get to our feet and cheer. Because we are patriots and we believe our diversity makes us strong. #Lab21 @Keir_Starmer

. @nadhimzahawi has just confirmed to me that the Government will not change or extend the support available to businesses or employees as a result of #leicesterlockdown . My constituents and people across Leicester deserve better. This is a warning for future local lockdowns too.

My constituent Mr Espedy Alvester Thomas, who came here in 1950s as part of #Windrush generation, finally got his naturalisation certificate today! I raised his case with @sajidjavid & won’t stop until he finally gets passport & compensation he deserves
