@madisontayt_ Communist men always want to take you to meetings and if you ask to go walk around the mall they'll ridicule you. Like, sorry I wanted a hot pretzel!

This is also why people get so mad when you say something negative about their favorite TV character, by the way. They only know how to interact with fiction through self-insertion, so anything said about their fave feels like you’re saying it to them.
I wrote about this trend in modern booktok-style romance where readers very much prefer first-person—to the point of flat out refusing to read the more traditional third-person—and what that means for literary culture as a whole.

Sigh. I saw this the last time I TA-ed. One student was a great writer, but her ideas were not clear or convincing. Near the end of the term, she admitted she had been using AI to summarize the readings.
I just gave a closed-book, pen-and-paper midterm exam in my 300-level course at UBC with 100 students. All exams were graded by an experienced graduate-level TA according to a rubric. *** The average was 64/100.*** My class averages at UBC are usually 80-85. Context: • This

You'd think some would have figured out by now: intensified and increasing work for those still working is the dominant tendency of _every technology_ deployed under the control of capital.
🚨BREAKING: Berkeley researchers spent 8 months inside a tech company watching how employees actually use AI. The promise was simple: AI will save you time. Do less. Work smarter. The opposite happened. Workers didn't use AI to finish early and go home. They used it to take on

This is happening to every single thing and it's infuriating.
I've been using this lotion exclusively for like... idk, 20 years? They recently "updated the packaging" except they actually completely changed the formula/ingredients and it's GARBAGE now. This keeps happening to every single product I like.

@Quora asks: How long do masks last? We tested masks worn in Delhi for up to 30 days. Here's what we learned: https://t.co/Mm5o2Epj09

I've always thought the central tension of LLMs are a) many people want an LLM to generate text for them but b) virtually no one wants to read LLM-generated text that someone else prompted.
I’m reviewing job applications and 90% of the cover letters are AI generated. They use identical phrases and have exactly the same structure and word count. Why do people do it?

One of the worst things that can happen is getting a call from the doctor's office at 4:51 pm telling you to call them back as soon as possible when they close at 5:00 pm

We're at a point where there are no cheap options to retreat to and no price points that guarantee quality. Every run-down studio is $1400, every fast food meal is $17, every luxury condo has peel-n-stick tiles, every $300 pair of boots falls apart. Endless expensive mediocrity.

As they should. Ridiculous that it’s legal to sell an iPad with wheels.
China and Europe are introducing new regulations that will require cars to have physical buttons instead of just touchscreens. They believe car controls must be "blind-operable" for important functions and that touchscreens can be a safety risk on the road.

Companies are both starving and robbing us.
I’m fucking pissed @DawnDish I bought a refill of the 70 ounce dish soap, and it arrived with only 67 ounces at the same price point. This shrinkflation shit needs to end.

the only difference bw you and the people being torn apart by the settler colonial death machine is sheer luck. there's nothing inherent to you that makes you more deserving of safety. it could just as easily have been you and that arbitrariness should haunt you, not comfort you.

So much of people’s use of generative AI is exacting control over people they have no control over. Dressing women, undressing women, fake pictures of celebs that reflect their unmet desires and demands. It’s a very dark tool of humanity.

For the rest of your life, your parents will remind you why you live far away from them. Even as you approach 40.

Hey so you know how government agents are kidnapping people off the streets and putting them in concentration camps? Completely unrelated, Meta now has AI that can simulate their social media activity. Which I'm sure won't be misused at all.
Meta has patented an AI model that can "simulate" a person's social media activity after they die. With this AI a dead person’s profile can keep performing tasks like responding to content posted by real people.
