🔥 Many study protocols used in retrieval practice experiments are inappropriate for primary aged children and very few studies have been done in authentic primary classroom. So how do primary schools use this in the classroom? My new paper explores this.

👀 Today’s thought provoking #sundaypoll👀 CLT is complex and difficult, even in a lab and for those who study it full time. Are teachers actually using CLT in their teaching or are they just using the language of CLT? RT, ❤️ and comments all welcome.

At #CogSciSci I said we are becoming overly focused by activities in the classroom. I'm my latest paper I make a call for research into how things like retrieval practice interact with other things we do in the classroom 👇

This is a great illustration of why what seems to a simple activity is actually very tricky in a classroom. It also highlights the difficulties of translating experimental outcomes to actual practice. 1/2

@greeborunner This survey which we have out is showing some quite alarming trends about how revision is undertaken. I think teachers will be surprised when they see the results.
👀We have an ethically approved survey for Year 11s who are revising for GCSEs doing the rounds.👀 If you have a Year 11 or would like to share with your revision class please pass the link on. The early results are already quite staggering. Retweets 🙏 https://t.co/IHOP3GWufo

I've seen teachers panic particularly in observations when during retrieval practice students get the answer wrong. The benefit of retrieval practice is from the testing effect of students accessing the information not from AFL. So don't panic, correct the mistake and move on.
