Yes! #moreplantsonplates please! More plants on plates = less emissions, less waste, less METHANE (cough, ahem, @MichealMartinTD, splutter), less antibiotics (remember the antibiotic resistance crisis anyone?), less chronic disease, less hospitalisation, improved biodiversity...
The European Society of Cardiology has recently updated their guidance for primary prevention of Ireland’s number one cause of death; cardiovascular disease. Class I, Level A evidence is to limit animal foods and eat towards a plant based diet. @HSELive @plantbaseddocIE

What does it take to move 1000 people? Better infrastructure supporting mobility choices that don’t take up so much space (or produce so much emissions/pollution, cost so much public money, etc). Graphic via @SeattleSubway based on a Sydney graphic I spread around years ago.

Big clusters of nitrogen fixing bacteria nodules on the roots of an alder tree. Apparently some species of alder can sequester up to 200kgs/ha/year

I worked for 20 years in "Big Ag" so you don’t have to. This is what they don’t want you to know: Farmers don’t have time for conspiracy theories. Romanticize farming all you want, but without modern tools, you’d starve. GM crops aren't frankenfood. They cut pesticide

This is really stark. Truly amazing how little investment the State has made in infrastructure over the past few decades. This stat below sums it up.
At a meeting on Friday I was reminded of how much work we need to do in Ireland to modernise and upgrade our existing rail network. Looking at the statistics, you can see how much work we need to do to even get to the EU average of approx. 57%.

The heaviest of clay ground. Grew a decent crop of spruce trees in 24 years. Would have done better again if we hadn't interfered! Now being resown as a native woodland (30 acres)

Ireland’s share of pedestrian fatalities is nearly double the European average, making Ireland among the continent’s worst for pedestrian safety...Yet the 30km/h debate still revolves around how motorists will cope 🙄 @PatKennyNT @mcculld

When it comes to achieving better cities for people, a BIG challenge is how little space we have for public life, given the space we’ve surrendered to cars. Barcelona’s “superblocks” show what we can fit if we took that space back. Video by @modacitylife

I’ve no issue with people having cats, but hearing their ability to kill wild animals being championed on a poplar evening current affairs radio show is very odd. It’s estimated they kill 16 million birds a year in Ireland. I think we need a bit more responsible messaging.
