Walking around it always strikes me that the best way to start a real recovery of native woodlands is to allow the pockets which remain to expand naturally. Presently these are often actively suppressed whilst we pay for woodland creation elsewhere I made a short video about it

Labour’s Ged Nash says the comments from Simon Harris, who suggested 80% of asylum applicants were not entitled to be here, were the sort of “misinformed comments you get from a bloke in the pub who gets his information from Facebook”

War is hell. Russians rolling over your borders is also hell. Ukraine (Lithuania, Estonia etc too) are Belarus tomorrow unless Europe can stand on its own two feet.
🖤🇭🇺On this day in 1956, Soviet tanks rolled into Budapest to crush the Hungarian revolution. PM Imre Nagy gave his final radio address as KGB chief Ivan Serov oversaw the brutal invasion. Nagy and other leaders were later executed, while over 200,000 Hungarians fled to the West.

The reading of scripts is a dreadful feature of Irish politics. Presumably the people involved believe in what they’re saying, so why the need for a script? The constant looking down is awful.
The Govt is leaning into toxic far-right narratives about international protection applicants. Depicting IPAS applicants as scammers gaming a lax system is now a deliberate strategy. This is not just irresponsible, it is reprehensible.

Welcome move @JamesBrowneTD for rural in particular. Now makes much of OPR/ county housing plans / planners saying ‘can’t get planning / can’t supply due to lack of infrastructure’ which is just another LA / OPR excuse (as seen in Waterford CC ‘plan’ undermining Ministers target)

20 years of DNA findings: who are the Irish? The history books have been completely rewritten over the last 20 years - more than once DNA advances have separated fact from fiction What do they teach us on Irish & European arrivals? (1)

In some ways a fair point. My guess is that we hold those who claim also to be western democracys to a different set of standards than we do populations of emerging states like Sudan. All the more so when the US is literally providing the bombs.
By far the worst genocide happening in the world today. It gets a tiny fraction of the coverage and interest that the Israel-Palestine conflict receives. Why do some people burn with passionate intensity about human suffering in one awful conflict and care little about much

Just like all the "concerned citizens" overlooked the McGregors rape, they'll happily ignore this too...once the perpetrators are good Irish lads.
RIP Ryan Gibbons, 29. All he did was ask some guys on the bus to quiet down. He got off the bus and they attacked him. Friends described him as a "gentle soul" who could "always put a smile on your face". I could see that being my own son, and that terrifies me.

Update from the Killing Fields of Sudan: Maternity hospital massacre leaves 460 dead as patients and staff are butchered; 2,000 civilians were executed in two days. UN resolutions: zero. Protesters in London: couple of dozen. Coverage of Sudan carnage in media: minimal.
The ignored and brutal civil war in Sudan, which has already claimed 150,00 lives and displaced millions, has now taken an even more terrible turn in El Fashir, under siege and suffering famine. RSF rebels have captured the city, triggering the panicked flight of its remaining

Wales has a lot going for it - sound people, great woodlands, a living language, and even a few right hand point breaks! Cardigan is a fine town to visit.
