One of my least favorite pundit rhetorical moves is to pretend you have a strategic concern when you really just oppose the goal. To the extent it moves anyone (doubtful), it generates only confusion with zero added political clarity.
One trouble with Defund the Police is the slogan may do, at the minimum, short-term damage to police reform work. The backlash was severe enough where it appears Democrats, moderate and progressive alike, are less likely to take up reform legislation next year.
