Yes Steven I completely agree that we need massive public spending to finance a great books curriculum at every higher education institution across the country, requiring tens of thousands of new hires in the humanities and social sciences. The time is now.
Analysis of US college syllabi by the Open Syllabus project shows that bell hooks is assigned more than Aristotle, Judith Butler more than Plato, Edward Said more than than Kant, and Foucault more than everybody. (Thanks to Jon Shields for these comparisons.).
