New criteria for identifying Rapidly Progressive Dementia! You heard it first @MayoClinicNeuro @MayoClinic “We found that more than half of the patients in our study with rapidly progressive dementia had a treatable underlying condition.” - @GDay_Neuro https://t.co/E4x1omyy3a

Awesome insights from my previous PI @Roy_Lab_Thinks into the role of phosphorylation in synucleinopathies, mainly Parkinson’s. Much mystery stilll remains 👀. Congrats to @leonardoaparrar on the publication in @NeuroCellPress !

One question we often get asked is "What kind of article is @NEJM_AI interested in?" In a new editorial we lay several areas that are of high-interest. If you are working on one of these topics, consider submitting to @NEJM_AI. https://t.co/rTAcOpnPtj

This # was 41 for neurosurgery not long ago (my previous interest), now 73.8. The more medical leadership perpetuates this number (especially in a world w/strong LLMs) as something to aim for, the more medical students are disincentivized to do real science. Impact > number

97.6! 😳 That's the average # of abstracts, presentations & publications Orthopedic Surgery matched non-US IMGs had during Match 2023. I am really shocked by these numbers. I knew they were high but not mean of 50+ for 3 specialties. Source: https://t.co/qEo216VLhW #match2024

There’s a need to test AD 🩸 biomarkers in populations with comorbidities. Sacubitril/valsartan, a heart failure drug (ARB+neprilysin inhib), will confound 🩸 Aβ tests reducing Aβ42/Aβ40 by ~30% (only ~10% ⬇️ in AD). No changes in p-tau, NfL and GFAP. https://t.co/jxTYb8sbTA

Sacubitril/valsartan and Alzheimer's disease biomarkers. Great collaboration with @wagnersbrum demonstrating an important drug-test interaction with a commonly used AD blood test (Aβ42/Aβ40). Also reassuring results in other biomarkers of neurodegeneration https://t.co/UZa40JzL8t

My doctors gave me a 1 in a million chance to find a cure to my disease. To make things worse, I didn’t have a billion dollars and 10 years to develop a new drug from scratch. My only hope was to find a drug that was already FDA-approved that I could repurpose for my disease.

Fascinating to see LeCun use Kahneman to explain the fundamental difference but machine intelligence and human intelligence… humans do run on “system 1” most of the time though :/.

@TEDchris @vkhosla Yes, I do. LLMs produce their answers with a fixed amount of computation per token. There is no way for them to devote more (potentially unlimited) time and effort to solving difficult problems. This is very much akin to the human fast and subconscious "System 1" decision

On the last day of National Family Caregivers Month, I want to share that being a caregiver has been the single hardest experience of my life. It is incredibly painful, overwhelming and I often feel like with Brian's illness I have lost my own identity, my freedom, my own life.
