The most interesting part of this chart is the consistent price level throughout the calendar year! The poultry producers must manage supply really well to keep prices from spiking during the holiday season.

When something costs someone nothing they take more of it. -utility easements -mandated setbacks -fire lane & street widths -elevator dimensions -double loaded corridors We have a serious spatial discipline problem in this country that keeps costing us over and over again.
Building codes are out of control. We have to build streets to accommodate the biggest of the big fire trucks (turning radius). And don’t even get me started on the money wasted on fire trucks. And utility easements in one place I work used to be 10 feet wide (easement for the

Thought of a way for LA to raise a quick chunk of $, solve the cut-thru traffic problem, & improve traffic safety w/ a single initiative: If everyone on a minor block voted for it, parcel out the stub end of a minor-major intersection for sale to the highest bidder. 1/2

The tweet > mainstream pipeline is real. A few months ago the discourse On Here noticed MS’ reading and math scores improving since Covid. That led to posts about phonics. Now, heard a story this week on NPR with a former Obama admin saying pivot away from phonics was a mistake
@idlebell @jasonc_nc This is the answer. Didn't the whole single stair reform movement start because one guy kept tweeting and got the ear of policy makers? Keep tweeting about firetrucks, specifically, and how fire marshalls/departments are making decisions based on their emotions not data.

“The ability to pay” and “the relative value of the land” sounds suspiciously like “demand” and “supply”, but… that can’t be right!
No, the cost of housing is determined by the ability to pay and the relative value of the land. That’s why a 3000 square foot house sells for $12M in Pacific Heights and the same house in Danville, Kentucky sells for $600k. There aren’t a lot of billionaires or tech coders making

I had a world map up in my room starting in early elementary and my mom’s house had a full world map mural stretching the length of a hallway. It was old as hell and was dominated by the USSR in the East, but the US states were the same. Just give the kids a wall map to stare at
One of my biggest blackpills as a social studies teacher has been discovering kids don't learn any geography. I'm at a relatively nice school today teaching 8th graders how to label a map of the US with state names. These kids are in algebra and they don't know what Ohio is

I’ve been saying this out loud for years — moved to Chicago in 2008 and cops were walking the beat in my neighborhood, stopping into stores and restaurants to talk to owners, and shooed away people. By 2021 when we left, cops just sat in SUVs no with no street interaction
An underrated driver of the increase in urban crime in the 60s and 70s—the shift in policing from beat cops walking the street, to 911 responders in cars. Dramatic shift in "eyes on the street" deterrents, and social connections to residents

Culver City is the 1st in CA to legalize single-stair buildings up to 6 stories 🏗️—slimmer buildings with bigger, family-sized homes full of light & air. Credit to @bubbathefish, @AbundantHousing & HAC SoCal Dir. @jessezwick for making it happen!

The replies to Blake’s very reasonable assertion are as unhinged as the 15 minute city logic jumps. “Highway driving will be absurd and illegal” as a descriptive fact apparently means cars will start selling without steering wheels or pedals and ppl will horde pre-autonomous cars
Pretty soon, driving yourself will be as absurd and illegal as riding a pony on the interstate. Just like there are places where people who love horses can go ride them, there will be places for humans who like to drive cars to drive.

I *rode my bike to the library* to read computer magazines and manuals. Since you can't check out peridocals or reference materials, I'd pay 10 cents per page to copy the really important bits

Here’s how I calculated it
@Bundleup4 @EVrsalovich @sbsbruinsociety Looking at the numbers, honestly not that much? The lease is 8% of ticket revenue, which last FY = $928k. Plus private box sales over $250k and net concessions, totals $4.3m/yr. 17 years left = $73m. Chicago Fire paid $66m for their stadium buyout and that’s MLS not B1G football
