That feeling when the Governor signs your bill allowing more homes near public transit & you then walk from your 39-unit apartment building to get on the subway. Housing + transit = perfect combo

BREAKING: @GavinNewsom SIGNS #SB79, allowing denser housing near transit. From upzoning to streamlining to CEQA exempting, the biggest housing year I've seen in 10+ years covering Sacramento https://t.co/hx3rBFBfJu

Not as sexy as SB79 but … An appellate court just invalidated Redondo Beach’s HE in a sweeping decision, finding HE housing “overlays” on commercial/industrial land illegal when 100% non resi projects remain allowed under the zoning. Result - mid cycle Builders Remedy is back ⤵️

The BIG outstanding challenge is about funding and project feasibility. We both need massive increases in subsidy for Affordable Housing + ensure market rate housing is feasible. Today, we celebrate! 🎉🎉🎉

We're not done. We still need to effectively implement these laws and ensure local jurisdictions follow the law. But California has put the framework in place to solve this problem.

To build the homes Californians need, we must make construction an attractive and sustainable career. We look forward to participating in this process and engaging stakeholders throughout.

We support policies that help build more homes at all income levels. This proposed study to establish a residential living wage is an important step towards providing construction workers with living wages and ensuring projects remain financially feasible.

This empty car wash at 400 Divis is proof of SF’s housing death spiral - over 200 homes stalled for nearly a decade I’m working to change the law so projects can build under the rules they applied with, cutting millions in costs and finally turning sites like this into housing.
