People talk a lot about dealer gamma, and stabilizing or destabilizing effects from it. What people don’t take into account, is when marketmakers/liquidity provider pros actually hedge. Imagine you have a $100 stock XYZ that has an implied vol of 32, that’s the “price” that…
What exactly is a Box? 📦 It’s a popular topic of discussion on Fintwit. I will use the December $50/$150 🛢️box as an example. The options strategy called a box, is in fact, a callspread Plus a putspread of the same 2 strikes ie, $50/$150 cs plus $50/$150 ps here. Almost always…
There seems to be interest in “Trader Lexicon” I’ll attempt to put a few together here in a 🧵. There are specific word choices and order of words so that mistakes are limited. Price, then the phrase “bid for “ and then size. Example: MSFT, I’m $245 bid for 300 shares.

Rob, the call is priced off the synthetic future which has the borrow priced in. After that, you are selling uncapped risk with the other “geniuses” who think they figured this out. I don’t have time to explain further but this one thing called being short gamma can be a bitch.
Given today’s GME action 📈, thought it was an apropos time to revisit our discussion about what happens when implied volatility goes turbo bid. At what vol do OTM, ATM options all hit 50d? At what vol do 1x1 callspreads and putspreads hit approximately zero? What happens to call…

Quants will say say “ oh there’s auto correlation” TA guys will say, “oh look at this trend” and MM will say oh yeah it’s clear there’s flow working an order to buy/sell the last xyz period…

I am very involved with a natural disaster relief charity. We go into action after hurricane, earthquakes, tsunami’s etc. While this is outside of our usual scope, we have decided to go into 🇺🇦 Ukraine and help evacuate orphans by bus to 🇵🇱 Poland.

Well, there is crude oil, and are refined products like gasoline, and heating oil, diesel. All different things with different prices, as the White House surely knows?
Great thread about market making. Most pure market making is balancing order flow. For flat price/delta 1 you’d want to go home flat. For options MMs however, often there is opportunity and then it’s not pure, there are positions we hold because there is alpha.
Raw MM (no alpha in theo) shouldn't be thought of as a trading strategy at all - it's a service.
And not a "service" in the sense of the MM-as-a-service deals that token issuers enter into with mms, no.
A raw MM provides a service to all users of a market; that service being…
Finished dry aged tri tip 🥩. Grilled 12 min each side on medium heat and rested for 10min, to a medium rare. 🥰 dry rub of lawry’s seasoned salt, vegeta, garlic salt, and wet marinade of olive oil and garlic herb marinade.

Black scholes is just a formula you use to calculate an options price. All of the variables are known except the “volatility” that you either plug in to get a price or back out using a price. There’s a lot of learning and experience to understand what’s going on.
My mentor at J.P. Morgan ripped me apart for giving him 100% certainty answers when I was only 80% sure.
I worked w/ him for 2 years and this lesson still sticks with me:
If you know something 100%, say it w/ 100% confidence.
If you don't know something 100%, say you don't…

Learn statistics, probability, expected value concepts. If you want to be an options trader for a professional options trading firm, realize that you are trading volatility and not directionally so you need to understand the idiosyncrasies of options, not fundamentals.

The puts can be too pumped if a retracement happens absolutely, but stock could keep going up and then the vol plus premium of these puts continues to get more expensive. The way to play this is either as retail, sell unhedged but be prepared to lose on mark to market before expo…
Btw, Steiner taught the senior traders/heads of trading of Old Mission, 5 Rings, Parallax, Citadel, HAP Capital, Jane Street, DB, FNY the list goes on and on. And also, helped developed IOA(then called Whentech) -the pricing model for commodities which got bought by the ICE.
Tina contacted Mike Steiner.
If you traded options on the Amex in the late 90s/early 2000s there's a great chance you know Mike. He's a force of nature. A positive one.
Mike ran education for SIG in NY. He was an early mentor for so many traders.
And he's a natural teacher

He’s trying to illustrate that the “combo”- synthetic forward that the options chain is price off of, is $42.50 and not $58. The borrow is priced in. A combo is buying a call and selling a put for a long synthetic position and vice versa for a short synthetic position.
@mnopro
Movements of prices expiration day could be 1) gamma 2) theta 3) stock moves to a strike where people are long- IV implodes 4) stock moves to strike where people are short- absolute price spikes as people cover and since Vega is so small, IV spikes.
Or instead of “bid for” I can just say “for”. “ For”always means buyside to a pro. The word on the sell side is AT. The way you say you are selling something is size “at” price. Ie MSFT; I have 300 at $245.

A lot of grifters use buzz words that actually end up to be word salad for threads. It’s to impress those who don’t understand, to get followers. Meanwhile all the pros are in group chats making fun of the grifters.
@TradeVolatility
I haven’t traded spx in awhile. However you have to build the forward price in for atm. So back of envelope int for a year is about $240/12 is $20. At the forward is $4465 +$20 so $4485 strike is .52d. Checks out.

As a woman you have to have a super thick skin and have confidence to speak your mind and be assertive. It’s really the confidence that makes all the difference. Women are not apt to project false confidence, whereas men can and will at times.
