How an unlikely alliance of Treasury pragmatism, industry lobbying, and newspaper campaigns delivered racing from the brink—and what the numbers reveal about the sport's narrow escape. Plus: why...

Bravo, Ed, an absolutely superb, must read piece. Alas, those who should be reading & producing the Racing Renewal Plan are away celebrating a budget "victory" without even acknowledging the crisis. And now it accelerates. We await news from the Allen and Dunshea Holborn bunkers.

The crisis assessment makes for sobering reading, primarily because it is not a prediction of what might happen but a description of what is already underway. @FinalFurlongPod @LuckOnSunday @itvracing @PJAOfficial .@ThomasSavill @proform_racing https://t.co/GzfbsDRuV4

We have no casino, so that tax increase doesn't affect us, but the 66% increase in betting duty on Gross Profits on sports bets from April 26 makes that avenue too expensive for us now (we only just started taking football bets due to the loss of TRP tracks because of their 2%

What Britain needs is not a bigger benefits budget or a new round of breakfast clubs. It needs a cultural reckoning. https://t.co/TUeWeVcjdz @reformparty_uk @SMFthinktank @UKLabour #Budget2025 #Benefits

This whole clip is probably the most devastating political evisceration I've ever seen. Delivered gloriously by His Majesty's Leader of the Opposition @KemiBadenoch as she tears into the Chancellor's growth-destroying budget and character. This is a Prime Minister in the making.

Bookmakers just got hammered – and they will come for racing later Here’s the catch. That extra £1.1bn doesn’t fall out of the sky; it comes out of operator margins. Remote gaming going to 40% is brutal by any commercial standard
