Using the adjusted registration period (registered within 15 months of the end of occurrence year), suicide occurrence rates have been fairly stable from 2018 (10.7 suicide deaths per 100,000) to 2023 (10.4 suicide deaths per 100,000).

6,190 suicides were registered in England & Wales (11.4 deaths per 100,000 people) in 2024, rates stable with 2023. However, most cases registered in 2024 didn't occur in that year, new analysis looks at when suicides occur to better support efforts to protect vulnerable people.
