tear gas exposure can cause outside damage to the cornea (clear part) and inflamation inside the eye (iritis) that requires treatment. It’s rare for the to cause permanent vision loss but it can happen.

seems to cause a pro-inflamatory state that can affect the optic nerves. I saw and treated one 20 year old who had just tested postive for covid-19 who came in unable to see anything but dim shapes and shadows. On MRI, I saw the optic nerves were severely inflamed.

the courts have done this to us. If I can be sued for medical advice even without a treatment relationship., why would I give it without compensation for that risk. If you’ve been sued for a patient you didn’t even see, you’d understand.

after being given steroids, the vision improved somewhat.
3. the pink-eye (conjunctivitis) that is mentioned as a symtom seems to be incredibly rare. Despite the endemic rates of covid19 in NYC, I have yet to see and uptick in conjunctivitis.

Did some mini studies of extraocular muscles and cranial nerves today. Truthfully used to be daunted by eyes but the anatomy is really cool!

I examined and treated an 18 year old healthy boy with intermittent blurred vision who turned out to have bilateral optic nerve edema—>and on imaging was found to have clots cloggin up his brain fluid drainage system (venous sinous thrombosis).
