I was present at the protests at Newtownmountkenndy to take photos for a news outlet. I wasn’t involved with the protesters and was keeping my distance to take photos. Despite this fact I still got cornered, pepper sprayed and hit several times with a baton.

As a proud Irishman I’d love to say this man is wrong. But sadly he is not, the Irish government do not take this topic seriously and class defence as a cost saving measure. No air defence capabilities, no primary radar and and air corp unable to stop air incursions

It looks like martial law. I saw people trying to go into this very estate and those same gardai pepper sprayed them telling them to “leave the area” despite their pleas that they lived there. I met a family with young child in disbelief
The gardai are now patrolling housing estates in Newtownmountkennedy dressed in full riot gear, intimidating locals and waking up children.
Ireland is descending into authoritarianism before our eyes.

“Media black out” can be common place. A lot of Irish people don’t know this or think it’s a myth. The state can demand the media don’t report on a specific situation for “security” reasons. I’ve heard of a few situations but normally get reported on later with very few details
