Just to be clear since there seems to be some confusion. The tsunami warning is due to the M7.3 about 50 miles off the coast near Eureka. The quake many in SF felt in the same timeframe was much more likely to have been the M2.5 quake near Cobb.

i get a lot of shit for calling myself an “aerospace network engineer” rather than just a normal network engineer. i do it to try to head off some of the “why would u want to learn about XYZ this is old/stupid/unnecessary”. it means a lot when someone finally understands.

Elder sysadmins: share your ridiculous server naming schemes. I'll go first: Dune. Mailservers named after guild navigators, all-purpose utility server that changed identities all the time was "Scytale," 40 DHCP servers all named "Duncan Idaho," etc.

C is Latin, the root of all modern languages, the whole universe used to speak it. C++ is French, it’s Latin with fancy rules, used by the elite around the world & in specific circles. JavaScript is English, everybody speaks it, most speakers speak it poorly and others don’t

The pager knows where it's beeped at all times. It knows this because it knows where it hasn't beeped. By subtracting where it has beeped from where it hasn't beeped, or where it hasn't beeped from where it has beeped (whichever is greater), it obtains a difference, or deviation.

My org is pushing this "revitalization day" thing in which we have no meetings all day (tomorrow) so naturally, they sent a meeting about the no-meeting activity so we can talk about having no meetings in a meeting.

With the #GhostWrite CPU vulnerability, all isolation boundaries are broken - sandbox/container/VM can't prevent GhostWrite from writing and reading arbitrary physical memory on affected RISC-V CPUs. Deterministic, fast, and reliable - no side channels. https://t.co/qtmosPvuYl

Folks who have completed or are currently doing their PhD: If you were to have received a small welcome packet at your desk on Day 1 of your PhD, what would you want it to include? Some ideas: Post-its, a fun pen, highlighters, stapler, candy. What else?

DOES the existence of “The Doctor” and “The Master” imply the existence of “The Bachelor”?
