“[Blue Origin] delivered big time in 2025. On the very first launch of the massive New Glenn rocket in January, Blue Origin successfully sent a test payload into orbit. Although a landing attempt failed after New Glenn’s engines failed to re-light, it was a remarkable success.

why is the ptp version called GRANDmaster when every other protocol just uses the inferior ‘master’? don’t get me wrong—grandmaster is better. but why

My long-form journalism piece is out: "Keeping Syria connected during civil war." 🇸🇾 A gripping true story of a Syria Telecom engineer, "Mahmoud," who worked amidst a violent conflict, surviving ISIS, and offers a unique view on various outages. https://t.co/Cfwj8qfukN

A Syria Telecom engineer's account told his story during the war; what was behind internet shut downs? And what happened during students’ exams?

!@#$% i guess i can’t enable a simple L2 PTP + NTP on the same physical interface when im using tap aggregation (something something PTP timestamps goddammit) because NTP has to be L3 frick fuck goshdarnit this NIC doesn’t have enough interfaces for this clown show
oh my god PTP when using a very simple directly-connected-to-the-grandmaster setup with no routing involved, boundary clock, am i supposed to make the damn PTP source IP a unique value or the grandmaster’s IP? tf

another caveat bc im sure someone is gonna ding me for this too: yes, an ASIC doesn’t need an ethernet PHY to talk to another component thats, say, on the same board. you could just have comms via MII between them or whatever. PHY is generally used to get stuff onto the wire/in

caveat for those who want to get into “well, actually”s—the MII is technically not like, a physical chip u can see on the board. the variants of MII are basically interface standards for signaling/clock frequencies. BUT sometimes u can open up a switch & physically see traces

quick explainer re: some of the most important physical components & what actually does what in a(n ethernet) switch: ASIC: - looks at frames - decides where they go - very smart, very dry, does not touch wires PHY: - negotiates link speed - handles encoding / signaling -
