Private sector workers pay tax for public sector pensions, they also pay for their own pensions.
@TheScholar44 @john4brexit Private sector pensions used to be very generous and some are still very good but surely the aspiration should be to ensure that all workers have good workplace pensions. If not there will be many relying on benefits like pension credit and housing benefit in their old age.

Well intentioned but poorly thought through. This will be the subtitle of the Renter’s Rights Act. We pushed the government to think about the unintended consequences of the bill (although I confess I didn’t spot this one) but they mainly refused and rammed it through.
New report: a serious unintended consequence of the Government’s tenancy reforms. Hundreds of thousands of ordinary tenants will be dragged into an annual stamp duty calculation and filing regime.
