To understand the profound impact of school shutdowns I can just say this beautiful sunflower burst into tears tonight when I told her she could no longer go to school for what had been blended learning. Her tears speak to the words she expressed over the last 8 weeks.
Life is a strange & beautiful thing. My father was one of the founders of the field of cardiac electrophysiology - doing the initial research that gave us a better understanding of the electrical system of the heart. He published, lectured and was a giant of the field. THREAD
Mental health - it’s a topic that is hard for many to address, one that is misunderstood and that remains in the shadows. Mental health issues can bring pain and suffering that is just as intense and crippling as any physical pain.
The New Normal. hard to put in words how the mask, gown, gloves and goggles take away from the joy of being with the patient. So much of what I love about medicine is that personal close connection - the gear hides the smile, touch and subtle emotion.

It’s taken me a day to write about how emotional I feel as I watch my friends and my healthcare colleagues receive the
#CoronavirusVaccine
For 10 months I have been a witness as both MD and journalist to the incredible toll this virus has taken on our healthcare workers (note 1)
To be clear and avoid confusion - 20% of the patients requiring hospitalization were in the ages 20-44. 12 % of the patients requiring ICU level care were ages 20-44
"20% of those age 20 to 44 were hospitalized in this country. 12% of those aged 20 to 44 needed ICU-level care. We're still learning a lot... So for those young individuals who think 'It can't happen to me, I'm not susceptible to this.' That's just not the case." --

Her smile lights up a room, her eyes sparkle from faraway, her mind soulful, peaceful, playful & her heart love & compassion. Layla brightens everything around her. So thankful she picked us as her parents. Wish time would slow down - can’t believe she’s 5. Happy Bday Layla-bug!
I’m heartbroken to learn we have lost my friend Maria. Last Xmas she sent me a blessing and picture of my special saint Padre Pio. He was a healer and she healed with her love, energy and kindness. I will miss her but know her beautiful warrior spirit is alive in heaven. ❤️🙏
