Today is my first day on campus as dean
@WeillCornell
Looking forward to new role and expanded focus in academic medicine. Lots to learn! Thank you to President Pollack
@Cornell
Thanks also to Jessica Bibliowicz. I’m ready!
Some light in the darkness. Grandson, Rowan Patrick Davis, born a few hours ago. With
#COVID19
we can’t be physically present but our heart is fully there. Mom and baby are well.
Fewer than 20% of U.S. cardiologists are women. Stunningly, twelve states in the U.S. have fewer than 10 women cardiologists! We need to do better and men leaders need to help.

Dr. Robert Harrington
@HeartBobH
, a cardiologist and Professor of Medicine and chair of the Department of Medicine at Stanford University, will serve as the next Stephen and Suzanne Weiss Dean of

Medicine.
19 children murdered in Texas today. I’m a heart doctor. I’m also the dad of 4 and the grandfather of 5. Gun violence is a healthcare issue. How does this get stopped? Policy makers need the guts to help stop this. The evidence is clear.
Received an amazing package from
@CMichaelGibson
today. Knew it was coming but this gift of friendship brought tears to my eyes. Mike’s talent is extraordinary but his humanity surpasses. Read his message to me.

Don't glorify Epic. The concept of a functional EHR was missed by current vendors. Terrible user experience. Limited true interoperability. Patients and clinicians deserve better.
Just posting now after a busy weekend. Missed
#TCT2022
this year to watch over grandkids in
#Denver
Highlight was stepping in for our son-in-law at the father-daughter school dance. A truly memorable night for grandfather.
One of the great failings of academic medicine was allowing
#EHR
vendors to gain so much power and control over our information systems. Bad decisions.
Pleased and honored to announce the appointment of
@EldrinL
as Chief, Cardiovascular Medicine,
@StanfordDeptMed
effective March 1, 2020. Excited for this transformative leader to join us on campus! More details to follow.
This has been a tough year. I am grateful for many things.But I am most grateful for the time that this crowd spends w me. All good stories and the family favorite reads.
@StanfordDeptMed
Last week in office
@StanfordDeptMed
Thanks to an amazing group of faculty, staff and trainees. It has been a fabulous 11 yrs. One important leadership lesson for me: it’s always about the people. Looking forward to the next chapter

So very proud of our granddaughter. Only girl on her baseball team. On same team as her brother.
#girlpower
And, she wears pink cleats. Very cool. Got a hit today too.
This is a false dichotomy. Medicine needs both. Never a better time to be an MD-scientist given pace of discovery but we can’t ignore the importance of social determinants of health. Zip code pretty important.
@StanfordDeptMed
Wearing pink today for breast cancer awareness. Honoring survivors. Remembering those lost. And in support of the much needed research efforts.
@WCM_MeyerCancer
@WeillCornell
Cardiology is leaving talent on the table w under-recruitment of women into the speciality. Why are other specialities of medicine so much better?

A restorative weekend w family in
#Denver
. Much needed by all of us. Grateful for 4 daughters, 5 grandkids and 2 SIL. Hard to get us organized for this picture. But very worth the effort!
Been a tough week saying goodbye to many great friends/colleagues here

Some know me well and understand my sports allegiances as we head east. Thank you Niraj Sehgal, CMO

Been a tough personal week. But today, glorious bud break in the vineyard reminds me of the cyclical nature of things, good and bad.And, we planted three rows of Sauvignon blanc back in 2019. Looks good, finally.
Hey

colleagues, we are looking forward to moving east but can you show us some great east coast pics that match our west coast pics tonight.

Getting ready for weekend full of great science, networking, some fun too. Family coming for Sunday’s President’s Session. Thankful for that. Had to pick up their badges. 4 daughters plus grandkids makes for big crowd.
There is the rare occasion when you listen to someone speak and say only "wow." If you watch only one talk at

Science, a personal journey and hope for a better future. Wow.

Have a joyous and wonderful holiday w thoughts for a healthy 2024. From our family to yours. We corralled most of the grandkids for this one.

Dismissing value of
@Twitter
out of hand is to miss the opportunities for other types of engagement and learning. Scan journals. Follow people w interesting perspectives. Comment on new data. Promote interesting work.
Yes because there are no other venues of medical communication that are hard to tell if the opinion is informed or biased. Twitter has the same issues as any forum. To dismiss it is not to realize it potential to enlighten and prove insight into the views of others. Quickly.
Thank you
@NancyatHeart
Looking forward to working with you, other leaders, staff, science and lay volunteers in the fight against heart/stroke diseases.

Been attending major

mtgs for > 30 yrs. Drill remains the same: weekend prep a few days before it starts. View has changed from NC to NorCal to NYC. And now 6 grandkids on screen. But still enjoy it all! Looking forward to

Day 2 of our trip back home. Spending day w our good friend
@CMichaelGibson
Getting up close view of where the art happens!

Nothing better.
Congrats
@DLBHATTMD
on being name an

Distinguished Scientist. So well deserved! And tomorrow, heading west and no more ties for a while.
#AHA19
Off this week to spend time w family, relax and recharge. Nothing fancy. Swimming. Hanging outside. Reading (including w the grandkids). These 5 give my life more than I can explain.

Memorable dinner w friends and colleagues who have guided cardiovascular medicine over last 50+ years. Learned a lot tonight!

We cannot claim to be a civilized society if we can’t trust that our children and grandchildren are safe in their schools. Gun control is a healthcare issue. Background checks. Age to purchase at 21. No automatic weapons. What’s so hard? The evidence is clear.
For biomedical science to advance, we need real collaborations between clinicians and statisticians, as well as other data scientists. Not a directing of work but a sharing of ideas, planning, methods and results.
@amorrismd
Wow.. i just googled this. I am so sorry. The
@AHAMeetings
need to ban this individual from future events. Young scientists shouldn’t have to be racially abused when promoting their science at AHA meetings and a formal complaint should be made to their institution
@HeartBobH
Don’t forget to wear red today
@GoRedForWomen
Need more research on heart disease in women. My why is Jean Gatti Harrington. Left us far too young at age 42.

Author's views are racist and not consistent with my values nor AHA. Investigation is underway into how it made it through the editorial process. Like you, I want to know what happened. I am angry, frustrated and disappointed that this piece was published; expect review soon.
Dr. Harrington, I know you care VERY much about D&I. (Like you actually care) I’ve heard from many how cardio initiatives are growing stronger for D&I. And attempts to be anti-racist in all ways. The paper was racist.
Will it be retracted?
@HeartBobH
@SharonneHayes
I get asked this frequently. Do a residency. Medical school doesn’t make you a doctor, residency does. You need the experience of seeing patients but also the increasing levels of independence in clinical decision making. Will make you much better at tech role.
I've been asking chief medical officers this q. all week.
If you're out of medical school and interested in working in digital health on the clinical side, is it worth doing residency? Got some interesting feedback that I'll collect & share. Anyone got strong opinions?
Visiting family this weekend in
#Denver
This little guy wanted my day over this afternoon. So he joined me! Thanks Niraj Sehgal for the screenshot. Grandkids are the best.
Outstanding pictures! With 4 daughters and 2 granddaughters, I agree with you. Happy Holidays. Enjoy family, friends and some downtime.

ABC & our partners have been at forefront of addressing cardiovascular disparities in our communities for decades and it is crucial, now more than ever, that our efforts help to mitigate the unacceptable disparities among our most vulnerable populations.
Grateful to be with 3 of 4 daughters. Plus 5 grandkids. Other daughter is working as EM PA. Proud of her. Missed Thanksgiving and last Christmas w them due to

. Finally, putting up these clothes until 2022 holiday.
Such a wonderful event to officially welcome
