I simply think True Crime ghouls could just learn to be normal and read/watch horror, thrillers, and crime fiction instead of making the real life stories of really victims of violence—many of whom have surviving loved ones—your entertainment.
Of course there’s a huge backlash against True Crime. It’s predominantly consumed by women. Society cannot trust women to make decisions for themselves. Anything they like must be scrutinized and denounced.

You watch enough horror and it’s not really scary anymore. Instead, it becomes a safe place for you to examine your own fears, anxieties, aggressive tendencies etc. It can be therapeutic if you get to that point—I’ve found horror great for helping manage my anxiety and depression

Personally, I don't think "Shakespeare did it" is a defense that you can make unless you can write as well as Shakespeare or "Looney Tunes did it" unless you're as funny as Looney Tunes.
The reason people complain about this is because the execution is often bad and not funny.
