The HBO Max nonsense has me thinking a lot about Doctor Who.
In the 1960s and 70s, the BBC had a policy of erasing old TV episodes to reuse the tapes. As a result, there are nearly 100 lost episodes of Doctor Who. All we have now are audio recordings, made at home by fans.
It does make me laugh a little when people whine about how

doesn't "feel like" Tolkien.
Meanwhile, there's an entire episode where an elf cries because he has to cut down a tree. Which is possibly the most Tolkien thing ever depicted on screen.
Everyone in the Marvel class photo is standing/sitting like a normal human being, and then you've got Taika Waititi and Jeff Goldblum, each striking a goddamn POSE.
I have a feeling this is going to be my new Tom Holland Umbrella, meaning that it's a video I need to rewatch every time it pops up on my feed.

Entertainment companies are not your friend. They will always prioritize saving money over preserving their archives. (This is also true of media companies.)
The BBC did this a lot. In the early 1970s, they were planning to erase every episode of Monty Python's Flying Circus — but an employee tipped off Terry Jones, who smuggled them out and made copies.
The funny thing is that preserving your archives now almost always means more money later.
If Terry Jones hadn't rescued those Flying Circus episodes, Monty Python would never have been rebroadcast in America. And it never would've turned into a worldwide phenomenon.

Kevin Feige also weighed in: "We knew there was a finite amount of time that we’d be able to do this, and we told the story we wanted to tell, and I’ll always be thankful for that."

Fascinatingly, the BBC has started trying to recreate those lost Doctor Who eps.
They've taken fan-made audio recordings of Patrick Troughton episodes and animated them. (Although it sounds like the project was recently canceled.)
I love, love, love that Jed Brophy is one of the orcs in the most recent

episode.
Between LOTR and The Hobbit, he's played orcs, elves, dwarves, and more. Truly a Middle-earth icon.
This is psychotic, but I reject the notion that she wouldn’t be able to tell the difference between half Coke, half Diet Coke.
True Diet Coke addicts are like the finest sommeliers: We can tell you whether our Diet Coke came from a can/bottle/fountain, purely by taste.

Me, five minutes ago: Ugh, I am so tired of Batman movies, how many times do we need to see this wealthy manchild work through his daddy issues by beating people up.
Me now: I LOVE BATMAN GIVE ME A WHOLE TRILOGY OF JON HAMM SWOOPING AROUND GOTHAM CITY NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA...

Disney has now set theatrical release dates for seven (!) untitled Marvel movies in 2022 and 2023. We know four are Blade, Captain Marvel 2, Ant-Man 3, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3... but what are the others? 👀

I cannot overstate how much Mary Oliver’s poetry means to me. She wrote with such clarity and honesty about what it means to be human — to struggle with your place in the world and try to learn how to forgive yourself.

Yeah yeah yeah, everyone's talking about Lily Allen and David Harbour's AD house tour.
But SOME OF US are still thinking about David Harbour's AD house tour from 2019, featuring his incredible bachelor loft in Nolita. It's my dream apartment.
Why did Carol punch that old lady? Is that the same pager from Infinity War? What is Coulson's skincare regimen?

A few weeks ago, I went to an alien planet (a.k.a. a sand quarry in Simi Valley) to hang out with Carol Danvers herself and talk all things Captain Marvel.
If the Hawkeye/Kate Bishop series doesn't include Lucky the Pizza Dog, Tracksuit Draculas, and a live-action recreation of this panel, then what's even the point.

take is that Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez should write theme songs for every Marvel project.
Give Thor an emotional '80s ballad. Falcon and Winter Soldier get a will-they-won't-they romantic duet. Loki should just be full Broadway.

A concept: Ready Player One, but instead of making the target audience '80s-obsessed white men, it's millennial women who were Extremely Online as teenagers.
