The Brain Prize 2025 was awarded for pioneering work on brain cancer by Frank Winkler and Michelle Monje. This short portrait film tells about their upbringing and scientific journeys, and also how treating patients inspires their work on these devastating diseases. #Neuroscience

A new study in Nature challenges long-standing views on how Group 3/4 #medulloblastomas develop. Study group led by Prof. S. Pfister argue that large-scale chromosomal alterations, not oncogene mutations, are the earliest events in tumor initiation. 🧵🧵🧵 1/n

Also, a big shout out to @LogunMeghan @sun_yusha @XinW_up @StephenBagleyMD for their extraordinary work using GBM organoids as high-fidelity real-time models for CAR T cell therapy testing in parallel with a clinical trial

So excited to share this study looking at the dynamic interplay between GBM and CAR T cells during treatment using organoids and single cell multi-omics! Hopefully this moves us toward a better understanding of #immunotherapy in #GBM. Huge thanks to @UPenn_SongMing @DrORourke2!

So excited to share our work mapping out the extensive neuron-glioma connectome and discovering unexpected ‘synapses’ all across the brain! Congrats to @sun_yusha, the @UPenn_SongMing lab, and our brilliant collaborators @DrORourke2 @MacNasrallah and more!
Thrilled to share our new preprint! We leverage GBM organoids and monosynaptic rabies tracing to reveal the brain-wide connectome of this cancer, including a cholinergic neuron-tumor synapse that may fuel GBM invasion. @UPenn_SongMing #CancerNeuroscience

Incredible work! Especially the identification of underlying molecular mechanisms involved in functionally consequential glioma-neuron interactions. As with all great science, so many more questions to explore in #CancerNeuroscience and #glioma!
Patients with #glioma often experience altered cognition but it was unknown whether tumors remodel or destroy neuronal circuits in the human brain. New, open access #CancerNeuroscience paper: https://t.co/a0kcM30o51.

This study found that autologous tumor lystate-loaded dendritic cell vaccination plus standard of care (SOC) was associated with improved survival in both newly diagnosed & recurrent glioblastoma compared with matched controls who received SOC treatment.
