In January and early February I pulled my teens out of school to avoid Omicron. Cases exploded and my family was safe. Throughout I traded emails with “the attendance lady”. She died today. 1/7

Today I feel to my core how “privileged“ I am. I’m ashamed of our country, of this “do it yourself” pandemic. Every single person deserves access to covid safe environments. To live, work, study, access medical care & shop for essentials knowing that they are protected. 6/7

You do not need to get Omicron. No, it‘s not true that ”everyone will get it”. Wear an N95 indoors, 100% of the time you’re around anyone not in your immediate family. Get boosted. And, my favorite, don‘t be a dumbass (I.e. no plane trips, no restaurants, no signing in a choir).

Out of politeness (if nothing else) mask mirroring should be the default, especially among HCW. If a patient is wearing a mask, you wear a mask. If you’re entering someone’s home & they‘re masked, you should be masked. It’s human decency 101.

@WADeptHealth This is disgusting. Way to throw vulnerable people even further under the bus. Kudos.

@RanuDhillon Then why is every HCW in my husband’s oncology office in crappy surgicals? And why were they all unmasked at an event this weekend? They know, they have the means, they just don’t care.

We need to treat each other with dignity, especially in our times of need. I’m beyond sad at the indignity of this situation.

@amymaxmen @sloan_kettering I just don’t get it. How does this nurse show up to work everyday knowing she could literally be killing people? How do these people live w/ themselves after having infected someone who then dies?

@Lexialex KN95s are not enough. There’s a reason why N95s are required to have behind the head straps. Ear loops simply don’t fit as well. We need to encourage people to wear the best mask in high risk situations. At that is a N95 at minimum.

At this point I don’t even get upset. I know what to expect even in a deep blue wealthy suburb of Seattle, covid is “over” 🤪

@larmbrust @AbraarKaran If I had access to a machine like you and @masknerd have I’d grab people wearing N95s off the street & do a quantitative fit test on the spot. I’m darn sure the protection the average Joe gets from a N95 is multiples higher than using a surgical mask.

@Sblahov @AlexandriaVAGov I‘m pretty sure the first time you show up in a full face elastomeric respirator wheeling in a hepa filter that they’d excuse you from the jury. That’s my plan at least 😂 But seriously, this is unconscionable & I‘m sorry you’re dealing w/ this bs.

@gradydoctor I’d be eternally grateful if a doctor said they were “Unsure—but urgently curious” to me. This is what I want. Honesty. Curiosity. Searching. Learning. Not trite answers & dismissiveness.

I see a lot of people choosing to mask but wearing cloth masks. These people are trying to do the right thing but the CDC has completely failed them. Cloth masks belong in the garbage. Best to worst: PAPR Elastomeric N100 N99 N95 KF94 KN95 Surgical Mask Cloth
