I’ve decided to undertake a fall quest in search of the best happy hours around Vancouver. By “best” I mean good food and drink at bargain prices. Went to Joe Fortes yesterday; lively, convivial atmosphere, good service + reasonably met both my requirements.

@hellosarahgreen @SimonTownsley @PaulNuki @Telegraph @TelGlobalHealth “This piece was a long time coming.” you spent 4 days in Vancouver shooting poverty porn. I guess you’re not so busy over there in London now that the Conservatives got their butts kicked by the Labour Party.

It’s very clear that ABC thinks that bike lanes are a luxury for recreational use, not an integral part of the transportation system. #VanPoli

Justin has hit the nail on the head. Pt Grey wants to have its cake and eat it too. Decades of opposition to even laneway houses and they wonder why the neighbourhood has turned into a sterile retirement village for wealthy people.

Put a less charitable way, Point Grey residents and Vancouver planners saw UBC build an entire commercial district that was much more vibrant/convenient for 90% of UBC students, did absolutely nothing for 20 years in response, and the free market did what the free market does

ABC voted to exempt old fountains from the water conservation regulation + allow them to use drinking water to operate, even during drought conditions.

The Conservative Party Press Conference: Kevin Falcon says that nothing is more important for the next generation of BCers than defeating the NDP. He and Rustad will work together over the next few weeks to put together a team that will defeat the NDP. What a gong show

Mayor Ken Sim says that Vancouver doesn’t have unlimited resources + must prioritize. Well, the same is true for the significant percentage of Vancouver residents who have decided not to own an automobile and use alternative transportation instead. What about them? #VanPoli

Kevin Falcon has not resigned as leader of the B.C. United Party + the Board has not dissolved the party; they’ve simply announced that they’ve suspended the election campaigns of all the BCUP candidates. Put another way: they totally shafted their own candidates, including MLAs.

Refresh my memory: why are Vancouver tax payers paying the wages of an ABC Political Party enforcer? Shouldn’t ABC be paying for their internecine party stuff themselves?

Many said it would never get built. Yet within 2 years of @KenSimCity and ABC taking office, ground has broken on the Little Mountain social housing project. ABC is working to ensure all Vancouverites —regardless of income — have a place to call home.

Just listened to Christine Boyle + Tieleman housing debate on CKNW from yesterday. Interesting to hear Tieleman pivot from TEAM wants “Paris everywhere” to TEAM wants spot rezoning hearings everywhere, something they formerly vehemently opposed. #VanPoli

You are an out-spoken Colleen Hardwick/TEAM supporter, and it is incumbent upon TEAM to denounce and disassociate itself from this misogynistic and offensive character assassination of Cllr Christine Boyle.

Does any of this make sense: Hardwick repeatedly abstained from or voted against social housing even when 100% subsidized by the NDP Govt.; she has no experience in “delivering” affordable housing that TEAM can point to, and TEAM has no viable housing policy. #VanPoli

@pwaldkirch This process + decision is cynical even by ABC standards. The city was required by the province to develop a plan to protect the Englisb Bay waterfront from sea level rise. ABC has trashed the plan but inserted + approved a road expansion project. Disgusting.

The issue of affordable housing will be a dominant issue in the Oct. 15 municipal elections. The counter-narrative presented by TEAM is “livability.” But what does “livability” mean? And does it necessarily include affordable housing? #VanPoli

I’ve heard it said that Mayor Ken Sim does not have a mandate to abolish the Vancouver Park Board. The situation is worse than that. He expressly stated during his mayoral campaign that he would NOT abolish the Park Board. That was his mandate: to NOT abolish the Park Board.

Just wondering how those people who thought we needed a one party majority on Council feel about that now. This “New Right”- driven council is more interested in destroying our public institutions than serving the public interest. #VanPoli

Something I find annoying about ABC Council + Mayor: they underfund the Park Board, making it difficult for the Park Board to maintain Parks + Rec services, and blame the Park Board for that; but they always seem to find the money when they want to meddle with Park Board juris’n.
