@natwexler reminds us in her latest Substack that real progress comes when teachers have both cognitive science and high-quality instructional materials grounded in that science. Strong science + strong curriculum = stronger learning. #KnowledgeMatters #CurriculumMatters

I don’t know what grinds my gears more, people from education telling me we don’t need to teach for recall because we have AI or people from industry telling me it.

Gotta put it out there: team teaching with an apprentice is great! Modelling pastores perch + least invasive intervention then handing over for them to try straight after is a game changer!

Posts like this are important, not just because of how Ms. Sam is shifting the paradigm in the US, but it reminds me of how far we've come in England. This level of silent work isn't quite *the norm* in English schools, but it's hardly rare, and isn't surprising either.

Schools don’t need more action plans, they need better focus. It’s like planting new signposts every day on the same trail, eventually no one knows which direction matters. Layering plan on top of plan only distracts leaders from what matters most. One school improvement plan

When middle-class children fail through discovery learning, their parents hire tutors who teach them explicitly. Working-class children just fail.

Thanks @PepsMccrea @adamboxer1 @Carousel_Learn @Mr_Raichura @Josh_CPD and all the others who have put in the effort to deeply know learning. Keep doing what you do, keep the compass needle in the right direction and help us avoid the folly of anecdote.

Amidst the educational wind of change there is a vacuum which has formed. Certain voices have filled it will speculation and misinformation. Keep your bearings using the evidence and the wonderful examples of teaching out there: https://t.co/FlAGkmGWUM

I think this ignores vital parts of the learning process like rehearsal, spaced practice and bulk practice. I understand it's probably just a pithy way of saying desirable difficulties but it's worth remembering. Most students do not get enough practice.

Thread: In public service reform, the thing that is most often needed - but scarcely ever provided when governments get involved - is rational, evidence-based action with a 'continuous improvement' mindset. Making better what is working and changing what isn't. 1/
