Great things happening in 8th grade @MeadMS_AISD! Dr. Ligon taught students to color code their essay so they can notice the essay #ECR structure. Mr. Alford used #Quilbot to teach students how to edit their essay. Students were able to show what they learned about #JoshBell

Maps become meaning when students create with them. 🗺️✍️ Designing brochures on U.S. regions turns geography into knowledge, vocabulary, and storytelling. Clearly demonstrating how social studies grows both literacy and imagination. #HistoryMatters

In social studies we’ve been learning about the physical geography, natural resources, and climate of different places in the United States. Students chose one of the places we learned about to create a brochure on that location! Creative artists are at work!

This is such a great question...we spend a lot of time lamenting the loss/lack of books in school (as we should), but we don't talk about the hardest part: rebuilding student stamina so they can read full-length novels. What do folks think? What resources do you recommend?

Thinking about this❓as I begin the @goyenfoundation #literacy fellowship—how do we teach a novel (or whole books) effectively in the 21st century? Seems like a lot is working against this from a lack of whole texts in ELA curricula to declines in attention & reading stamina.

Pres. @realDonaldTrump is reportedly on the verge of declaring a national housing emergency, and with good reason… the homeownership rate fell to 65% in the second quarter, the lowest level since 2019 and well below the 2004 peak of 69%. Affordability is at a multidecade low.
