I’ve seen some posts citing assemblies don’t support culture. I couldn’t disagree more. Badly done assemblies may not help but assemblies can be and are a powerful part of your overall messaging, culture & ethos.

Absolutely this!! Thank you for highlighting this @Strickomaster . Currently , this is the thing that gives me the biggest stress and sleepless nights due to the intense scrutiny and secure fit measure of Ofsted around this.
Attendance goes beyond belonging. Schools can only do so much. Illness Unauthorised holidays Parental attitudes Truancy Lack of boundaries Societal factors All remain as key issues beyond the control of schools.

@Strickomaster There are only so many phone calls, meeting, support plans, home visits, mentoring, etc that you can do. If a student doesn’t want to come in, and the parent has the wrong attitude you’ve got no hope.

If there is truly a desire to fix education then the key has to be making teaching a highly attractive & financially competitive role. The job is relational, reliant on adults working with children. Lots of adults. Not screens. Until then it’s a case of rearranging the furniture

I worry about the Ed Tech push, which is fuelled by financial self interest, not by what is right for children. Children don’t learn best from a device & endless evidence shows the negative impact devices have on the development of a child.

Some people don’t like the idea that poor class behaviour needs to be addressed swiftly & often the only way to do that is to issue a clear & consistent sanction. Those same people have no viable credible alternative, more so when trying to manage 30 kids at once.
