Very happy to share our latest review in Current Opinion in Genetics and Development: “Timing mechanisms: insights from comparative neural differentiation systems”. It’s part of a great collection of reviews on developmental timing ⏳ https://t.co/EAZ2ehJcoF

To mark this year's Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, we've created a collection of miRNA-related papers Ambros and Ruvkun have published with us over the years, alongside a few reviews that showcase some of the many roles miRNAs play in development

A 1,000,000th reminder the crucial importance of basic research. Ambros and Ruvkun were looking into understanding nematode genetics and development, not looking for a drug, and ended up opening an entire new area in biology

Congrats to Ambros and Ruvkun! Read the original papers, which appeared together in 1993: https://t.co/Pa7uzFw1H7 https://t.co/lSo9t5ez30 Back then, the finding that small RNAs - not protein - produced at one locus could control protein expression from another was big news!

Most of us learned in school about the Central Dogma: DNA->RNA->Proteins. For decades gene regulation was only about protein transcription factors regulating gene expression. Ambros and Rukun used the small nematode worm C. elegans to change that picture 1/2

Proud to see my PhD work published in @embojournal! We developed PUFFFIN, a cellular neighbour-labelling system, and demonstrated its effectiveness both in vitro and in vivo. In mESCs, PUFFFIN revealed that cells synchronise exit from naïve pluripotency with their neighbours.
