If you, like me, are confused about the relationship of the "Big Beautiful Bill" to the 2025-2026 Federal budget and its relevance to science funding and other issues, here is a GREAT explainer from my friend Kevin Wilson @ASCBiology
The "Big Beautiful Bill" isn’t the federal budget—it’s a reconciliation bill focused on tax cuts. The real FY26 funding decisions for NIH, NSF, and more are happening now in Congress. https://t.co/nAt6949JT3

Call @SenThomTillis today--thank him for voting agains the disastrous cuts to Medicaid in the Big Bill and urge him to rally some colleagues to oppose final passage. (202) 224-6342
A big thanks to @SenThomTillis for being the first signature on this bipartisan letter urging the Senate to maintain a strong commitment to funding for @NIH in the Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education FY 2026 Appropriations bill https://t.co/zyLaOtznyw

NO SURPRISE HERE — PHIL BERGER IS THE REASON WHY MEDICAID EXPANSION TOOK 10 FUCKING YEARS TO PASS IN NORTH CAROLINA! Berger knowingly kept 600k folks from access to a doctor. Shouldn’t be a shock that he sides with Donald Trump on killing rural communities.
I support @realDonaldTrump’s Big Beautiful Bill and the legislature will work through any implementation issues.

It also has devastating cuts to virtually everything I want my taxes to support: science, a safety net, conservation, etc. Call your Senator today--30 seconds will work. Tell them to vote NO on this bill. Tillis is at: (202) 224-6342 3/n

One can view his second point two ways: In reality I agree we that "Trillion-dollar partisan spending packages subsidize wasteful initiatives". The Big Bill is partisan--solely Republican supported- and has huge amounts of wasteful spending on ICE and other pet projects 2/n

Here is yesterday's response from my Senator, @SenThomTillis Once again he seems to be trying to straddle two sides of the science funding issue, as he knows its key to the NC economy but also needs to seem to toe the Trump line 1/n

Did the hourly temperatures this morning at RDU seem extreme to you? They were. This chart shows the all-time highest HOURLY obs at RDU (going back to 1945). Note - this DOES NOT include values between hours. However, the 8am, 9am, and 10am obs were the highest they've ever been.
