Prigozhin’s dizzying, opaque network of subsidiary interests— including anti-West information operations that assist Russia’s tactical and geostrategic efforts in #Africa — make # #Wagner a uniquely complex enterprise to dismantle, even for Vladimir Putin.

There’s a lot that makes sense here, but there’s an ostensible neglect of France’s leading role in pushing NATO to launch the intervention in Libya in 2011 (at the initial reticence on the part of the Americans)

" #Lebanon hosts some 1.5 million Syrians." (Appx 7m Lebanese) Proportionally, this would be equivalent to a sudden extra 45m refugees in the US. Lebanon never had the space or capacity to accommodate such an influx. It's a miracle the peace has been maintained this long.

French initiative convening Libyans in Paris reminds me of French effort to get Algerians together in Rome to end 1990s civil war. Hindsight from that history points to French intervention causing more harm than good, and possibly even prolonging the war.

#France ’s #Macron mentions #Libya at the #UNGA , alluding to armed groups in the greater #Tripoli area, says, “We cannot leave the situation as is.” What kind of action to alter the status quo then? Sanctions? More? In partnership w/ whom?

Up to 2014 we've learned a lot of historical lessons. I don't think there could be any realistic merging of the Toubrouk and Tripoli government. The negotiation process has to be pursued through them. The status of Haftar will be key to this -Amanda Kadlec

What's happening in #Tunisia re migration has been happening in #Libya for years - and much, much worse - via similar EU-funded measures w Libyan government. My guess is that the Europeans with any position to change things already know.

I hate sharing this. But what's worse is the world not knowing. European citizens—esp Italians & Dutch—should know the EU (led by Meloni, Rutte & Von der Leyen) are facilitating these abuses by partnering w/ #Tunisia ’s president (who is responsible for them) to combat migration.

Have to say that this title is a clever one - more importantly, as journalists and researchers we have to ask ourselves this question

Concise assessment by @MezranK "Could the necessity to silence Gadhafi be the major motivation for Sarkozy’s military intervention [in #Libya ]? Possibly, but it is more probable that this was just one of many reasons that played a role in the decision to attack Gadhafi."

Erik Prince proposed something similar: "Macron is now insisting on a “concrete military and police initiative” in Libya, accompanied by UN sanctions and other tools to interdict the “passeurs” or smugglers who move migrants from the Sahel and West Africa through Libya."

Storms like this simply do not happen in North Africa in the summer. Akin to Southern California facing a hurricane earlier this summer.

There is no evidence to suggest that it is "in the best interests of the United States" to recognize #Jerusalem as the capital, more likely the reverse
