For all my LA friends, let me share my 10 years of FL hurricane experience with you. 🧵
1. If you’re leaving, LEAVE NOW. Sunday or later is too late.
2. If you’re not leaving…
- Get non-perishable food items, a non-electric cooking device, and a cooler to fill with ice
1/5
I’m so glad this is doing numbers and I hope it helps!
I just want to remind everyone that even if
#HurricaneHilary
downgrades to a tropical storm…
THE DESERT IS NOT BUILT TO GET RAIN LIKE THIS!!!
There WILL be flooding, power outages, and probably mudslides.
Stay alert! 🙏🏼
- Fill your bathtub with water the night before the storm arrives and plug it (use to boil for drinking, shower, and flush toilets)
- Have all info and travel gear prepped for your pets and children (you still may get evacuated and you want to be ready)
2/5
- Gas up your car and get an extra gallon to keep in the trunk
- Get batteries and flashlights (try to avoid candles- fire hazard)
- Prepare to be without power for days or a week (y’all are not built for hurricanes so I don’t know what you should expect with the damage)
3/5
- Take detailed photos and videos of your home for inventory and insurance purposes
- Bring any outdoor animals inside
- Have a plan if things go bad
- If you need additional power, get a generator and hook it up OUTSIDE after the storm
BE SAFE!
5/5
- Charge EVERY device you have 100%
- Board up windows
- Put sandbags around doorways/anywhere you want to redirect flooding from your home
- Pull everything you can off the floor in case of flooding
- Put any important documents in a waterproof case
4/5
Other good suggestions I forgot:
- Get cash to have on hand
- Get walkie-talkies to use when cell service goes out or download the Zello app
- Talk to your neighbors and organize a building/neighborhood plan for cleanup afterwards
- DO NOT CALL 911 UNLESS YOU ARE IN DANGER!
- Make sure all of your medications are filled and organized
- If you need oxygen, make sure you have extra tanks, if possible
- Get a power bank and make sure it is charged
- Have your N95 masks and COVID tests in a sealed container when not in use
One of my best friends’ lost their mom last night.
After beating cancer last year, she went in for routine surgery that went septic, causing her to need to stay longer in the hospital.
The hospital gave her
#COVID
before sending her home untested to her family. Now she’s dead.
THIS is why one-way “individual choice” masking policy is genocidal bullshit.
Alice can’t wear a respirator & relies on others to mask to keep her safe. She is risking her life right now for necessary care because US healthcare is more concerned about profits than doing no harm.

Just watched a tiktok of a girl literally SOBBING hysterically because her tax person told her she owes $18,000 in taxes on $100,00k freelance income and I kinda need to know who her tax person is because that sounds like the deal of a century lmao
*And I’ll clarify: only have the gas cont. (preferably stored outside of your car or inside with windows down) to get home, then store safely at home.
It’s good to have if you need to evacuate and there is no gas left at stations.
Sorry- just trying to say to have it on hand!
Not only should she still be alive, but now my friend (who is also severely immunocompromised), her father who already has dementia, and the rest of her family who had come to help with her convalescence have all been exposed to

Looking for a COVID-safe dentist in NYC— a difficult task.
Called a mobile dentist specializing in coming to disabled people’s homes.
Asked him to wear an N95.
His response: “I haven’t been wearing any mask and I’ve been fine.” 🤯🤬😡
This guy has definitely killed people.
And since the minimizers have already found this I will say loudly and clearly:
Take your eugenics and get the hell out of this thread because I will block and report you so fast all you’ll see is my dust.
I’m seeing a lot of my

I have solved this problem with the following:
1) I had this sign made through Shutterfly and taped it to my door. You’re welcome to use it.

I was a professional musician and actor for 25 years.
This ongoing pandemic has basically ensured I’ll never perform again, as no one but me seems to care that none of us die while doing it.
My spouse, also a musician, has given up performing to keep me safe.
It’s depressing.
This is your daily reminder that if you have been living in the US during the ongoing
#SARSCov2
pandemic, you have NEVER experienced a “lockdown” of any kind.
You had 2 months of stay-at-home orders in 2020 that weren’t enforced by the State.

Please know that even if you are a renter, you can refuse anyone entry to your home if they will not mask during an ongoing

I know these things take time and money, but they were small and worth it to me to try to protect myself since no one else will.

A couple months ago we had our dog start wearing an N95 every time he leaves the apartment.
Tonight it paid off- a dog heading outside while my spouse and pup were on their way in was barking up a storm and the owner said it had

#MaskUp
, including your pets! 😷
My spouse wore a P100 or N95 all day every day, had 3 HEPAs running in his classroom at all times, taught outside, and provided KN95 and N95 masks for students (sadly few wore them).
He made it out of a year teaching in NYC without catching COVID from them & lessened the spread!
All these teachers I see on twitter claiming that there is nothing they can do to help the children in their care from getting sick and that all criticism should be directed at other authorities while admitting to not wearing masks in the classroom are fucking monsters. Not sorry
2) Underneath the sign I put a wire basket filled with individually sealed N95 masks.
3) I have a video doorbell (that doesn’t help cops) and use it or my peephole to see if they’re masked before I open the door. If they aren’t, I tell them they have to or they can’t enter.

I was a child when GW went into Iraq and Afghanistan and I didn’t have the ability to see anything but the propaganda they shoved down our throats.
This time, EVERYONE has access to the truth recorded by these brave Palestinian journalists. We will never forget this. 🍉🇵🇸

“Believing that the system is “broken” rather than functioning exactly as intended requires a certain adherence to white supremacist and anti-Black beliefs.” - Bree Newsome Bass
My contribution to
#AbolitionForThePeople
:
"Black Cops Don’t Make Policing Any Less Anti-Black"
I take a critical look at how Black people are used for pro-policing propaganda and the fallacy of thinking we can integrate white supremacist systems
Wow, I can’t believe this got around enough to reach anti-science, COVID denialists, but let me be clear:
Any minimizing, disinformation, denialism, or urging me to do any of these so you’re more comfortable participating in this genocide will get you blocked and reported. 🖕🏼
Since so many people found this I’ll add a few more. (This is by no means an exhaustive list and I assumed most of you have earthquake kits and some form of emergency prep/response knowledge.)
- Get a crank weather radio
- Have bottled water (the tub is for pets/last resort)
If you know of a dentist in Manhattan who takes REAL, SERIOUS precautions against airborne disease, drop them here.👇🏼
BONUS if they are mobile and will bring a van to my building or do the appointment in my home, where I have better mitigations than most hospitals, apparently.
And by “make a plan if things go bad,” I mean:
- How will you get out of your home if it is flooding? Do you need tools to exit to the roof?
- Where will you go?
- Who will you contact?
Also:
- STAY OUT OF FLOOD WATERS! Do not drive or walk through it and clean yourself ASAP
My family: We’re just concerned how paralyzed you seem to have become in your life from [

Me: Yes- deadly uncontrolled viruses that threaten to kill or further disable my

#mandatemasks
- Use your washing machine as an extra cooler by filling with ice
- Freeze a cup of water and put a coin on top and leave it on the counter when you go out so you can see if you lost power and how long ago
- Make sure generators are set up at least 20 feet from a building and not near open windows
- Bring in or tie down any pots, plants, and loose furniture
- Have car/travel chargers for devices
- Get extra deodorant and baby/sanitizing wipes for when the electricity is off
- Get paper plates, disposable cups and utensils, and extra trash bags
- Use frozen water bottles to pack your freezer and keep things from spoiling so fast (try not to open your refrigerator/freezer much!)
- Have a First Aid kit on hand
Check the FEMA site for more!
Also, the 2 months at home plus 1 year of masking you did then is not the reason you’re so sick now, three years later.
It’s because you’re not wearing a mask now and keep reinfecting yourself with

All in the name of “normalcy” and for capitalism.

One of the first few weeks I worked at Nordstrom and a woman brought jeans we did not sell (Kmart brand actually) and screamed in my face for 5-10 minutes while I fumbled around trying to return something we never sold, try not to cry, and wait for my manager to come back.
I’ve seen a lot of FL people ragging on others for warning SoCal residents about hurricane/tropical storm prep.
Most of this criticism is directed at the relatively low (for a hurricane) rain total for this storm. As someone who has lived in both places, a bit to think about: 1/
For those who work with deaf or HoH people, there is a great clear, reusable respirator called Canopy. Passed NIOSH 98% filt!
It’s expensive, but VERY comfortable and nice.
I was able to get one and plan to wear it when I’m not using my GVS Elipse P100!
IT’S PROPAGANDA.
The governments are deploying anti-science, pro-disease propaganda because making the necessary changes to our systems to solve this would reveal how broken things are…and people will realize we don’t have to keep doing it this way. Then they’ll lose power.
So many people asking if the flu is going around right now really shows how successful governments have been at intentionally downplaying and misinforming people about COVID.
most of her pain occurs bending over.
She was mad I sent a cane and told my FIL we sent it “because your son thinks I’m old.”
*I* sent it. I’m 32 & she has seen me use a cane and my rollator/wheelchair for years now.🫠
She loves the grabber though, so I guess I’ll take it. 2/2
I don’t want to still be in heavy isolation 2.5 years into this, but you all keep going unmasked to weddings and parties and shit (even though you are all probably higher-risk than you think!) and spreading disease.

I’m a Precautionary Principle advocate through and through, and this is no exception.
Yes, many will “overpay” throughout the year on this system, but then you get a refund back and not a huge surprise bill!
Better safe than sorry, especially in high-tax states like NY & CA.
@MCG2000
Surgical masks are not sufficient protection from airborne disease transmission, especially the highly transmissible SARS-CoV-2 variants among us now.
Everyone should be wearing a KN95 respirator or better in public.
And now he’s tone policing disabled people’s righteous anger with ableist slurs. 🫠

Just to follow up: the brand of person I was referring to is someone who tells people to fuck off if they choose to work from home while sick. I don’t find that persuasive, I find it unhinged.
Long Covid is real, tragic, and deserves more attention (I had a post-Covid condition
I had two clients yesterday tell me that their parents now have Long Covid.
One client accidentally infected her parents. She never tested positive and took many tests. Didn’t know she was still contagious. Now her 84 year old dad can hardly do anything he used to.
@BernieDogs4
@myrabatchelder
I’ve been trying to find a safe one for months (no care since it was significantly safer in Spring 2021 after my first vax series and NYC still had strict mitigation requirements).
Why do people who are in other people’s mouths for a living want to share and rawdog air??? 🤬
There is something to this. I have always had a touch of dyspraxia with my autism (clumsy, knocking into things, dropping stuff, rolling ankles, etc.).
BUT never when I dance, play sports, use knives, etc.
When I want to focus, I’m safe. When I’m doing random shit, I get hurt!
what’s fascinating to me is that it doesn’t affect me much at all when playing music or sports - it’s usually “background tasks” like holding something passively while globally dysregulated
would love to understand more about this, maybe it’s a default network thing?
THIS! I won’t get harassed, so my neighborhood bodegas will simply lose my business and the internet will gain it.
So, clearly,

would rather enrich Bezos and big corps than allow disabled people to shop safely with small business owners in the city.

insisting that every people lower their mask before entering a store, not only puts people in danger of getting covid (especially if you're immunocompromised) but disabled people like myself are just going to go online, which means less sales for local stores.

This is how I feel about my former friends and what little family I was still in contact with in 2020.
I’ve removed myself and see how they behave. We are no longer friends or in contact unless they change and admit wrongdoing and try to repair the harm they’re causing.
#COVID19
If any of them become Covid conscious and also come to understand how their behavior has been harmful (and has sacrificed me & millions like me) and are willing to be accountable & repair harm they directly contributed to, I’m open to moving forward w them again. Otherwise, no.
As someone physically and emotionally abused for decades by a religious adult male in a heterosexual marriage (my father), and being a queer person who has not abused anyone with many queer friends who are not abusers, I approve this message.

My spouse who wore a P100 or N95 at ALL times outside of our apartment only took sick days from teaching last year due to being burnt out from covering so much for all of the unmasked teachers who were out sick.
All school boards would need to do to see how effective masks have been is to check attendance rates for teachers that mask consistently. Compare the number of sick days taken by those people vs all teachers in aggregate. Especially during surges.

Every time I have to find a creative way to get my baby down a flight of stairs with the stroller, like today when I had to get an Ace hardware employee to help me carry the stroller down, I think about how many times a day wheelchair users must just have to give up stuff.
