It’s tiring enough getting people to admit that “real” Christians can be bad people. But the hard truth we really need to hear is this: for some versions of Christianity, being a GOOD Christian *means* being a BAD person (anti-pluralist, anti-democratic) https://t.co/JGgqfUb8VM

One of those unspoken social rules I’ve never been very good at observing is that new years are supposed to be greeted with optimism, and this year is no different. Here we are at the beginning of...

"It would be exceedingly foolish to go and further alienate a large chunk of the Democratic base with calls to 'put God first' in the voting booth," writes @C_Stroop for RD:

To be honest, it doesn't seem like he needed a lot of prompting. He has gone so far off the transphobic conspiracy deep end that he's now somewhere in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean

Steve Hassan's cult expertise has helped a lot of folks. Now, weaponized by anti-trans activists, his legacy is fuelling conspiracy theories. This episode tracks his influence in fanning the culture war fire over trans dignity. https://t.co/yAYZFOukSJ

Steve Hassan has stated at length his opposition to the “cancel culture” he believes is directed at Rowling and himself. This episode is not that. It’s a sober evaluation of legacy, disciplinary...

@matthewremski Great episode, but small criticism on a talking point popular in anti-trans spaces that you repeated about progressive countries rethinking trans care for teens. In the Netherlands, where I live, questions are mostly being asked by conservative politicians, not the actual doctors

Dutch journalist here 👋 This is false. The Netherlands has not called for puberty blocker restrictions. Conservative Dutch politicians who have wanted trans care to be restricted already, took the opportunity the Cass review gave them to ask in bad faith for more “investigation”

"The allure of understanding the nature of reality in a way that others don’t can be particularly seductive to people who aren’t deriving meaning from community and healthy relationships, or for anyone who is vulnerable due to recent major loss or trauma"

"Authoritarian Christianity places a great deal of emphasis on crushing one’s desires in order to become like Jesus. The level of self-erasure prescribed is so extreme that I think it’s comparable to the requirements of the assassins’ cult the Faceless Men in Game of Thrones"
